Think Lofthouse has a lot to offer to be honest but can’t see him getting anywhere near our team. We already need to bin either Cotter or O’Keeffe off and use the other one as backup to Williams when Collins eventually plays him at full back. Lofthouse needs to be away getting first team football. Anybody in League 2 getting him will have a decent player.

Maybe we're going to sell him?

He’s been getting rave reviews at Gateshead. My hope is that we sign a centre back & put Williams at right wing back & if that’s the case then Lofthouse needs another loan in league 2 but if Williams is going or staying at centre back then I’d like to see Lofthouse given a go as Cotter & O’Keeffe haven’t given us much.

While there may not be much difference between the lower half of League 2 and the top half of the National League, there is a gulf of difference between the top half of League 2 and the bottom half of the National League. A loan move is less about the quality of your team mates at your loan club than it is about the quality of opposition you're up against. If you're playing in League 2, for any side, then you will be playing against the best sides and the best players in that division. If the ultimate intention of the recall is to send Lofthouse out to a League 2 club, then that makes perfect sense for his continued development.

I don't know the details of the loan deals of Oli Shaw and Andy Dallas, but both are perennial Bench Gnomes at Motherwell and Kilmarnock. It doesn't appear that the situation is doing us, the players or the loan clubs much good. If we can recall them and send them to teams who would make more use of them, then I think that would be beneficial for all parties.

Oli Shaw could definitely do some shopping and basic chores round our house which would massively help out. Not sure I'd trust him near an iron though.

He’ll go straight out on loan in league two I’d imagine but if he’s rated as highly as he appears to be, even at that level, then I don’t see how he’s any worse a bet than either O’Keeffe or Cotter for us.

In fact it’s likely to be easier to loan him out to league two than it would be Barry Cotter.

Barry Cotter - 3 goals and 3 assists in 9 starts and 10 sub appearances in League 1. You seriously don't think anyone in League 2 would be interested?!

I love the loonyness of Barry Cotter, but he's not a defender.

Not if they’ve actually watched him, rather than judge on stats, no. I don’t think many would.

Unless they’d want to take him as a winger rather than full back or wing back. Which is of course possible. He’s a bit madcap and unpredictable but I like him - going forward.

I was meaning loaning him out as a wing back/full back, which is apparently what he is. Though his defending makes Jordan Williams look like Bobby Moore.

Agree that his defending isn't the best (to put it mildly!) but I think he'd absolutely rip most L2 defences to shreds going forwards. As you say, he is a bit on the deranged side, but that's part of the reason why I love him!

Talented young lad. Hopefully he gains more experience and plays with and against better players as part of this decision.

I watched him for under 21s just before he went on loan, best player on the field that day.

Cotter needs to go to a team that plays with proper wingers if there's any left.

I don't know whether we're going to sell him, Helen. Perhaps we're going to move him out for another loan period?

Lofthouse got 7 assists in 17 games for Gateshead, is really well thought of there, apparently, and won their December Player Of The Month award. You'd think there's a good chance he'd be a better option for us at RWB than anyone else except Williams.

I was surprised as I thought he was a better wing back than the ones I have been watching conceding goals.
