I think he did have mental health problems when he joined us from what I've read on here and given what I do for a living it'd be a bit **** of me to not think he deserves another go at it with us if he can get well.
You could well be right & I sincerely hope he has got over his problems but surely any health problems of any kind should have come to the fore at his medical etc plus when he first started playing for us he seemed to feature regularly which would indicate that his health was in pretty good shape . I personally think playing wise he has been very poor considering the fee we paid for him & he made it perfectly clear when he went to Ipswich how pleased he was to go there & subsequently his Bristol career has not got us chomping at the bit to bring him back , he reminds me of many a young player whose career starts brightly but gradually deteriorates much like Jacob Mellis but eventually they find their level & their career begins to stabilise but if we are to progress again I do not think Luke Thomas is one of the answers .
I really do not have a clue but if you are right that he might have had problems when he came here, would he not disclose these with those who are carrying out his medical checks ?
There is a huge stigma attached to mental illness, especially amongst males. You don't have to declare mental illness to your employer if you don't wish to. If you experience mental ill health for more than a year or are likely to experience it for more than a year from now, it is covered as a disability under the Equality Act.
Thankfully for the lad we can presume he must be in decent nick health wise as he is on the bench tonight for Bristol & surely this is an indicator that he is fit and well
The question the club never seems to ask when signing these 19-22 year olds, is are they any better than what we have in the u23s already? And if they are, is there enough of a gulf to justify their higher salaries. The transfer fee and wages gone to Thomas and Schmidt could've seen us sign a decent midfielder, or even allowed us to up the wage structure a bit to keep Mowatt.
I feel bad for Thomas. His loan move has just not helped him at all. Why we chose to do business with Joey Barton in the first place is ridiculous. The stuff with Stendel was bad enough, but we’ve willingly allowed a kid who has had problems with his mental health be managed for a season by a nasty vile bully. It wasn’t that long ago Barton gave Thomas a dressing down to the press, that would’ve made the lad feel so deflated and for me he should’ve been brought back the day after Barton made them comments. This is another thing these owners have a lot to answer for IMO.
I'm pretty sure we didn't force Thomas to Bristol Rovers and I seem to recall it was his decision to go there as it was closer to his home town. I believe there were League One clubs in for him and it probably would have been in our interest for him to play at a higher level but I feel the club felt it would be best for the player to go where they felt most comfortable. You could argue - and I know it's a long shot - that Barton (with his own issues with mental health) would be the ideal manager to manage the player and reintegrate them into regular football though ultimately - like yourself - I don't think it's the best environment for them. Personally, I think the player is being badly advised. Initially he forced through a loan move last season which ulitmately resulted in the aformentioned issues and secondly in their decision making for the current loan move. There is a list of things that the owners are answerable for but I don't feel this is one.
I never said they forced him. But they did agree to loaning him to Bristol Rovers under the stewardship of Barton. They have even had the chance to bring him back from the loan, I believe Barton even said Bristol Rovers wanted to send him back only for us to say no. I wonder why that is? I’d wager it being a similar reason to why Herbie Kane wasn’t brought back in January. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...s/bristol-rovers-boss-joey-barton-6261467.amp We have a duty of care for him and in my eyes he’s been badly let down. 77th minute substitute tonight for them, he’s been a substitute for them more times than he’s actually started… in League Two. I was a big critic of him last season, I thought he lacked end product and sometimes motivation (it’s lot more understandable why now) but I’d still say he’s better than being a substitute for a struggling League Two side.
Think I'm right in saying that Schmidt has only started one league game since August and in that he was subbed after 45 minutes.
Wasnt there a post showing the comms from Molenbeek saying it was an 18 month loan and he wouldn’t play this season, just focus on his fitness?
We are pleased to be able to integrate Obbi into RWDM's current project. Our goal is to get him back to full fitness on the pitch so that he can use all his abilities. He is loaned out for 18 months to give Obbi time to find his best level. We hope he can help us already this season, but the main goal remains to be able to start the 22/23 season with Obbi Oulare who has 100% of his physical and technical capabilities and to make him a mainstay in our attacking team.” . I don't understand how we have loaned him out for 18 months though
That’s a really good point. The BFC website states he’s on loan until the end of the 2021/22 season. This is contradicted by the RWD Molenbeek statement which reads: We are proud to announce the arrival of our new striker: Obbi Oulare Obbi comes over from FC Barnsley (Championship) on a loan basis (with purchase option), for a period of one and a half years. Oulare (1m96) is a 26-year-old Belgian attacker who has already played for FC Brugge, FC Watford and Standard Liège. Sportive Cell RWDM: “We are pleased to be able to integrate Obbi into RWDM's current project. Transfer market also has him down as an 18 month loanee. @SuperTyke apologies only just seen your post. Great minds...
