I was unsure what to think about this on first read of the press release and thank you for the enlightened and insightful posts in this thread which have left me feeling very positive.

There are lots of fine details questions around how much the new arrangement benefits the club, but I think we can certainly trust that the Council have their interests in the same place as fans and people of Barnsley.

The stability of knowing we'll be at Oakwell for the next three decades is a fantastic thing which warms my heart emotionally and the prospect of improvements and more cultural events happening at Oakwell is very exciting.

 

No - you are spot on. It was implied people would want to buy in to the project. But if you're just turning up to watch a game, what does it matter who owns the ground, or how? It doesn't make the team play any better (or worse). The ground will be partly maintained from the rental income. But I'd have thought it was a reasonable expectation the ground would be maintained anyhow. And nothing about this suggests any improvement in the first team squad, or that we are any more likely to hang on to players who develop and establish themselves.

 

Based on all that this can't be Khaleds big news can it. His big news can't be 'we are staying where we are and the west stand is staying as it is. Join this exciting journey '

Pacific media Group, of which Conway was representative of have already seen their holding reduced by rights issues. They have no control of the club. No reason at all to buy their minority shareholding as far as I see.

 

The sooner they are gone though John, I'd be happier to see them have 0% shares, and get kicked out of town!!.
