Plenty on here mentioned not long since that they liked it when we played in black shorts. We’ve played in red shorts before. We used to play in claret and blue when we were formed. Bend with the wind, move with the times, don’t be a miserable so and so!
The question is what will it look like, not in a photo shoot, but on the pitch when two teams are lining up before kick-off. On one side - a team that looks like professional footballers. On the other side - a team that looks like they should be selling American candy in one of them naff shops on Oxford Steet.
Clubs have hardly ever needed 3 kits either - it’s been going on for at least 10 years. Much more scandalous is the rising cost of polyester.
Not bad. Truth be told, I'm more interested in who'll be wearing the kit and who'll be coaching them.
Quite clearly the club are playing on the boundaries of our traditional identity. Albeit the historical visual ID of the kit is typically just a red shirt. You say these kits are "off brand" but which part of the club's brand equity do you feel has been stretched here? Also, an external agency would typically develop the visual identity of a brand. Rarely would an in-house studio work on such high-level briefs due to the necessity of a brand to always look externally for insight and inspiration.
I don't think what Chien does has any connection with the shirts at all. This is 100% a JAQ project, she was talking months ago about a collaboration with Kid Super Wonder what the Leeds fans said when Revie changed blue and gold to white in one fell swoop? Wonder what they'd say now if the club switched from white to blue?
...and spend the next 30 years moaning about the boring sameness of the annual kit releases. "Red and white again? Same old, same old"
You're giving them way too much credit. What you're suggesting actually makes sense. Look at the stars on the US Mobile logo. They're 5 pointed stars. We've put 6 pointed stars on the shirt. It's not what you think, it's not about pandering to the sponsor, it's not about making money, it's just appalling design. And the iconography. I genuinely don't know where to start. They've put the Star of David (press shift to restrict the aspect ratio when you're adding a shape BTW), bathed in blood red, being overseen by the Reichsadler. It is mind-blowing. I hope it's just utter incompetence.
Or people are overthinking things to a ridiculous degree. I look at it and I see stars and I see an eagle. Others look at it and see the holocaust. What a sad world we live in.
