If the shirt brings in much needed revenue into the club and it's not controvertial in the sense of the sponsor. Does it really matter what others think. So long as it stays true to the colours of the club. red and white it's fine by me. Not what happened at Cardiff a few years back. In that case I'd be livid.
Cardiff City’s ‘Bluebirds’ nickname comes from an early 20th century play called ‘The Blue Bird’ written by Belgian playwright Maurice Maeterlinck. As the play arrived in the city, supporters made the connection between the club’s blue and white shirts and dubbed their team ‘The Bluebirds.’ In the play, the bird is a symbol of happiness, so it’s understandable that the team bringing joy to its fans represents such a moniker. Despite this connection being established circa 1909, it wouldn’t be until 1959 that the club would officially adopt the bluebird as part of its crest. Cardiff City Red Kit Cardiff City started wearing blue as its colour in 1908 but when taken over by Malaysian businessman Vincent Tan in 2010 this would change. Tan oversaw the change from blue to red in 2012, a change that would alienate fans and transform the identity of Cardiff City. Why Did Cardiff City Change to Red? Vincent Tan promised to pledge serious investment if he was allowed to change the colour to red as it was lucky to him. He also argued that red is the national colour of Wales and there is a red dragon on the crest so the change made sense. Naturally, Cardiff City fans felt as though their club’s identity was being stolen from them when the change of colour and crest occurred in 2012. Following protests and a realisation that the club is for the fans not the person who bought the most shares, Cardiff would revert to its original blue in 2015. This would also see the club crest return to feature the bluebird more prominently.
They're just discussing new kits on 606 on 5-Live. Robbie Savage has already mentioned ours with a note of incredulity in his voice. They've invited calls on the subject.....
"I don’t think a blank red jersey stands for anything" "If they win in this you are like ‘OK this gave us something.’" “For those that hate it, f*** you man’.” A plain red shirt stands for barnsley FC mate. It stands for history and tradition. If we win a football match there is t a single person other than one deluded yank saying it's because of the design of the shirt. And the last quote. Damn
Whilst I actually quite like the kit, and I don't mind the idea of breaking from tradition, what gives him the right to tell me what a Barnsley kit should be? That interview doesn't do him any favours, it just makes him look a patronising p7ick.
Got to be said - our home kit has been quite plain for years. I know we’ve had patterns built into it, but nothing special. What he’s saying in the interview, is that our shirt is talked about across the UK- and design/fashion does provoke polar opposite views. It is good publicity for the club tbf. And, the shirt is only a copy of one we did years ago anyway - which has turned out to be an iconic shirt for us. If you could get an original shaws carpet one, I bet you’d be looking at £300+ at least for it. He’s stirring it up in the interview - perhaps that’s just the industry he works in, I don’t think he means any malice as such. And at least he’s passionate about it and still involved with us. You forget how mundane the Don Rowing days were
That for me is the best thing about our kit, keeping it basic red and basic white, and nothing flashy at all. But I realise that some think that's boring and dull though. As for this tooltastic Yank bloke though, I hope he doesn't get to 'work' with our club again!.
Doubt it’s made any difference at all to the number of kits we sell. Especially when they cannot be supplied anyway.
I loved the original stars shirt, and I think the new version is great too, but I think that's a really poor interview to come from anyone having any sort of association with the club. Basically, I'm great, the club is lucky to have me designing these shirts and I'm up for bantz with all the fans that I've just told to "**** you" if they don't like the design. Oh by the way, I trained with the players too because I used to play football. Embarrassing to read. I know JAQ loves him, and has been bigging up the relationship as a good one for the club (not that I'd ever heard of him, but I doubt I know anyone involved in fashion). Perhaps she should have advised him to keep his trap shut and stick to designing shirts.
