Trust me. It's a voluntary role. You will get a season ticket and expenses to meetings like those with police before a big game etc.

Sounds like a lot of responsibility with no remuneration for it.

Another smoke canister episode in't Ponty and the 'SLO' gets it from the fans when the club cracks down on it, and from the club when they tell them stuff they don't want to hear.

    No ta.

Yep, I believe you - I posted that before anyone confirmed.

It is misleading though, a few applications would have gone out on the understanding it was a salaried position. There is obviously no experience on staff as to just how you go about such recruitment.

Maybe putting in big letters 'voluntary' would have dampened the response to it?

Yes, they will be burned out very quickly no doubt. :)

And don't forget the poor sod on staff who will have to supervise, advise and instruct the lucky candidates and deal with all the inevitable emotional fall out that comes with 'employing' unpaid staff. You can suddenly find half of your working week has been spent pandering to volunteers. It might be a football league directive, but it is more than apparent just how seriously BFC are taking it.

No doubt. But instead they will waste time sifting through pointless applications. Isn't that just so 'us'!! :D

Dunno, it looks like this is being foisted on BFC, at a time when I imagine budgets are tight for non-playing staff, so they have to do what they can - as Stahlrost has said, if the footballing authorities were deadly serious, they'd fund 92 positions properly.

But yes, you're paid to do a job that some 'volunteer' is taking you to task for. Can see the office being a frosty place at times... And then there's the 'management' meetings.....

I take it from that that you think the club aren't taking this seriously. I would beg to differ. This isn't something that has only just come in, it has been around for a couple of years. I think Don's answer was to put his name down as the SLO. Ben has taken the time to look at it seriously, meet with other football clubs who have implemented it already and take from that, in his view, the best way of making it work for Barnsley FC. Yeah there may not be the budget but they are taking it seriously.

I believe they are, if you do mate. But I think the serious issues that this role will undoubtably involve, warrants a designated salaried position/s given to qualified and accountable employees. If we pay for policing and stewards, logic suggests that the SLO role should also be budgeted for.

The confusion over the paid/unpaid status, also demonstrates and naivety and inexperience in the process of find suitable, voluntary candidates. Whitey won't be happy when he finds out!! :D

Bang on stahlrost. I hope nobody applies for this 'job'. It's just lip service by the looks of it.

I would never have applied had I known it was voluntary. Sounds a lot of hassle even if paid my current salary, never mind for sweet FA. I think I'll concentrate on working my way up the ladder where I am. And stick to attending Oakwell slightly drunk. On optimism. :)

    3-0 tonight, You Reds.
