I wasn't particularly optimistic when I saw that we were starting with Oduour on one wing and Helliwell on the other.
why the fk is Callum styles taking a penalty kick, when he hasn't scored a goal in Christ knows how long, and we have two strikers on the pitch?!?!?!
I'm not going to attack our players tonight for the gulf in quality, because their squad value is in a different galaxy to ours. but my god, our quality on the ball in that 2nd half tonight has been atrocious. absolutely zero ability to keep any kind of possession or find a pass. the amount of times we just gifted the ball straight to a white shirt, or launched it hopelessly out of play was unreal. apparently incapable of winning a clean tackle either. players either running straight past us, or conceding needless free kicks. I'm really not sure what positives you could take from that 2nd half
Bitterly disappointed at the result, but a step in the right direction performance-wise. Oh, and I believe Michael Duff is vastly superior to the two Head Coaches employed last season.
Styles scored a cracking goal at the very end of the match v Huddersfield which relegated us. Our strikers have scored one goal between them in 7 games this season. It's hard to have confidence that any particular individual would score a penalty. Not an easy choice.
How depressing. For most teams, a difficult choice for penalty taker means they have several players ready and able to stick the ball in the net. For us it means we have no one in the side we believe can score.
I agree. Historically one of our better strikers of the ball gets selected to take a penalty. Shock horror.
Furthermore, Duff said after the match that Styles had scored all his penalties in training, putting them in the top corner. Even Messi and Ronaldo have missed a fair few penalties over the years. Whenever a player misses a penalty, lots of people opine that someone else should have taken it, ignoring the possibility that the someone else might also have missed.
