I must have taken the behind the Paddock route. I imagine the central path would have been blocked by people standing on it so down the steps, past the up against the wall urinals and up at the Kop end would have been the only option. I ended up jammed against that sliding metal gate but it was a perfect view of the whole pitch. Impossible to do this kind of thing today but in those days segregation wasn’t an issue. There were thousands of Man Utd fans at Oakwell at our previous home game against Wrexham when cup tickets were on open sale. There were 17,000 in the ground that day and then 38,076 for the cup tie.
