In my view, it may leave us just a little bit worse off.
As stated by the club at the February fans forum,
"Gauthier going to Nice creates an opportunity for Barnsley because we believe some that some players at Nice in a promoted Barnsley team either permanent/loan or loan + option could be smart."
That smart option may no longer exist unless we've been quick out of the blocks (transfer(s) already agreed, as was the game plan months ago).

I think this gives us a little more insight into the business model of our investors. Build up a club, eventually sell on for a profit. Fair enough really.

Well depends who they sell it to. Wouldn’t want to end up in the same position as Bolton find themselves in. Yes the current owners have a clear intention to be self sustainable and to reinvest. That might not be the case going forward under new ownership.

He may well have not been the cause of the demise but he was in a good position to rectify the issues and had enough time to do it.
He was incompetent, well out of his depth with no understanding of the English game.
A very poor appointment by the board, who should also take a good deal of the responsibility. On the plus side, the board did play a blinder with DS.

This selling on business is one reason why I want the council to retain a share of ownership of the ground. Stop anyone remortgaging etc to line their own pockets

Fair point but trouble is council will find it difficult to invest in the infrastructure and sell it to the council tax payers.
If grounds shared owners will expect like for like investment they won’t pay for improvements while council refrain but still have an interest in the value.

Agreed that is a problem in the future but not right now. I am a bit surprised by the Nice sale though but I suppose if the Nice fans arent behind them why not make a profit and move on. Out of interest, dies anyone know how much time Conway spent at Nice?

I think that's right GR. The new owners made it patently clear of their intentions at the original takeover meeting and from what we have seen thus far, they have been true to their word. One main point in that meeting was when Paul Conway said they were looking to grow the Club and wouldn't rule out a push to get us into the Premiership.

Especially after the disappointment of relegation in 17/18 and the rigid demands of FFP, they are hardly likely to come out and promise that that is their aim, but I honestly feel it could well be a latent ambition, because that's where the big money is and could help to foster support and encourage tourists to visit from Asia and beyond.

Unless they invest in another Club in the future, what the sale of OGC Nice does do, is help focus sufficient finance and interest in us and to my mind, that would be no bad thing. I genuinely feel for the first time in many a season, we could be looking at a very stable future period in our history.

The blame should solely be shouldered by the board who appointed him. He was clearly not upto the job and nothing in his CV suggested he could be.
Equally credit should be given to the board and it’s statistical approach to identify DS.
