You've nailed it there. I'm pretty excited about next season, but would be happy to finish top half, play some good football & start to build a team around the young lads & then hopefully run away with the league the season after. If we get a run going at the end of the season we might make the play offs. We need to avoid getting frustrated with the team in the opening months, because it is gonna take time.
He's not slow. He is mobile. He already has had a major impact. But he's on his way out of the club and so I thank him for his efforts and hopefully it's sorted sooner rather than later, allowing Danny to recruit a replacement. As for the entertainment quality, I thought bits of 98-99 were decent, until we flogged Ward. The season after that, under Bassett, was about as good as it gets, especially at Oakwell. We smashed most teams to pieces. Ended up at Wembley. It went tits up after that, and for me the only bright spots since then were the playoffs of 2006 (the actual league campaign was dull), the cup run of 2008, the first few months under Keith Hill, and the first few months under David Flitcroft. Plenty of utter tripe on show in the main, in and around those spells. Far too much, and at a fair cost to us the supporter. But, as much as I'd love to see Danny build a young, vibrant and attacking side, it'd soon go out the window if results went awry. Keith built the most attacking side I've seen since Bassett's boys of 99-2000. But once the board and bad luck destroyed it, and results went awry, the fans turned and wanted change. We've got to snap out of that mindset. I've got enormous faith in Danny to sort us out. He just needs appropriate backing from whoever it is who's making the key decisions. And, for the supporters to stick in there with him/it if results aren't exactly going as we'd hoped. And finally, whilst it's not my place to tell you what to do regards spending your money, I do hope you continue to support the club by attending regularly next season. You say we 'lack money' to improve things, but we'll lack even more if folk start jumping ship just because things have been a bit **** for a few years. You Reds.
Barnard - 15 goals. Sheron - 11 goals. Shipperley - 15 goals. Dyer - 9 goals. Hristov - 6 goals. Hignett - 21 goals. Unfortunately, we conceded **** loads of goals because Chettle, Morgan, Brown, Tuttle at centre half were ****.
To be fair to mr Orsen he did say since the season after we dropped out of the prem which I read to mean post Bassett.
I was just putting forward the bright spots since that relegation. Wasn't disagreeing with Orsey. And I think MrsHT was agreeing with me, for once.
I don't blame anyone who hasn't bothered getting a ST yet. Each to their own and nobody should feel pressured into getting one. It's upto the club to entice people into getting a season ticket by what they do off the field. So far it's been quiet so people have kept their money in their pockets.
You can't blame anyone, no. But you can't moan about the club having no brass if you're not putting brass in. And I say that as a non season ticket holder, who'll be putting (more) brass in.
There have been loads. watching any of Hignett, Barnard, Hammill, Butterfield, Vaz Te, Shipperley, Steele, DaSilva or even Paddy play The 5-2 against Leeds The 7-1 against Huddersfield The midfield that we had under Davey was as good as any I can remember though lacked a goalscorer.
Apparently O'Grady has a £500k release clause in his contract. That's why he was given permission to talk to Charlton.
I thought Don (or someone) had said that we wouldn't sign any more players with release clauses in their contracts after we were done over with Adam Hammil?
I'm with Orsenkaht on this. Can't remember a time when I was so disillusioned with being a BFC fan. Last season really cemented my mind-set in that I would not be getting a season ticket, having had one for >20 years and supported (attended) for 35 years. I will pick my games. The amount of money I have "invested" into BFC and the enjoyment they have returned me are not stacking up at the moment, probably haven't done for a good few years, which is what has ground me down to my current decision. I hear a lot of good talk coming from the corridors of Oakwell, but I am yet to see this reciprocate into results, either on or off the field. We adhere to FFP, but what good has that done for us? We develop young players and then don't realise their true value - John Stones. We don't identify a leader, a mentor, that can be someone who BFC fans associate with - we've let a few slip through the net, none more so than Bobby Hassell We change our manager a helluva lot and looking at the longer trend, it has taken us backwards. We invest in loan players, and in general, they have been mercenary money wasters. We have lost our identity as a Club - community, hard working, backs-to-the-wall battling mentality, youth policy, etc. It's all gone, disappeared. Once a Red, always a Red......the only difference for me is that rather than investing my money up front in terms of a season ticket, I'm playing the longer game and investing on a week by week basis. It might not make sense to everyone, but it makes sense to me and makes me feel in control. BFC is in my familiy's blood. It is the first thing my Dad, brother and myself talk about, wherever we are in the world.......but we are all thinking and doing exactly as I write in this post.
