Sorry HT but you are getting really really irritating , watched a few videos ffs, I watched hima lot and if you don't think that at his peak he would'nt walk into any England team since he retired quite frankly it beggars belief

Re: I've tried to keep out of the debate

When he signed for Lazio he could have signed for any of the top clubs in Europe, at the time Italy was the best league in the World. Had he signed for AC Milan in 1992 he would have won the lot and Hemsy wouldn't be having this debate.

Because crying about it showed he cared about him rather than the team.

If he cared about the team, you don't let it affect you until you are off the pitch.

Look at Roy Keane, champ league semi. NEw he wouldn't play in final but he cared about the team. Didn't let it affect him and then went on to play and help the team to the final that they won.
Same goes for the chelsea players. A few of them new they wouldn't be playing in final but because they care more about the team than themselves they went on got the winner and then dealt with it after.

So you're telling me that if your lifelong dream was crushed my one little mistake you made, rolled up in the emotional build up the the tournament and the emotion of the qualifying games, you wouldn't shed a tear?

He was showing raw passion, and how much it actually meant to him.

    Tha talking ***** lad.

Watch the game Phil, he cleared his head and played well for us. During the tournament he was a stand out player in possibly the best England team since 66.

Using the case of 'you must have won something to have been any good' is the most pointless argument on the planet. Think of how many talented (or as sky sports would say 'world class') players have won very little. Some players who are classed as the best of a generation played in average teams who never realistically had a chance to win anything. Its the old addage of, your only as good as your weakest player. You could have Messi up front but if you've got Tony Bullock in goal you're going to win nowt! Think about it, in the years gone by players showed a damn site more loyalty than they do these days, people like Alan Shearer and Le Tiss were both top class footballers but won **** all from wanting to stay at specific clubs. They will have also won goals of the season, player of the season, player of the century etc from fans and respected authorites at their respective clubs. Just because they havn't won multiple Champions Leagues doens't render them useless.

And for the record Gazza was Class.

    Exactly.

If, for example, Argentina never win anything does it mean that Messi is *****?

The exact same stands for Portugal and Ronaldo.

One player can't carry a team.

From my part its not about admiration, its about the recognition of a fantastic footballer. For all his life off the pitch is a shambles and thats probably his own doing, he was one of the greatest players this country has ever produced. Regardless of his personal issues a player with his level of skill and ability to beat a man and then play that killer pass or score a goal is something that England just don't have at the moment.

I think part of his problem has been that as an 8 year old he stood and watched his then best mate get run over a killed in front of his eyes. These things effect different people in different ways.

Going to London and gaining hanger on ****s like Danny Baker didn't help. If only he had gone to Man U and SAF.

Ah Roy Keane. I remember him. Isn't he the guy who showed how little he cared about the team by slating his team and ruining their world cup?

Re: I've tried to keep out of the debate

I was sat behind the goal when he scored against Scotland at Wembley those type of moments look unlikley at present. The Gazza type of player don't come around often for England it makes you wonder why this is?

Why do people respond to this nutcase? he's obviously a attention seeking thick person, he's probably loving having all this attention.

And selfishly taking a red card just so he could knack somebody. He cared about the team that day.
