    Exactly.

Barnsley's my town, England's my country, ergo they both get my support.

    I don't see Owen as a cheat

The game at Oakwell he went down as he was off balance, however the ref on the day read the situation entirely wrong and adjudged it as a professional foul - that's the ref's fault not Owen's.

I was impressed by Owen's attitude in that game, he was getting caught marginally offside on many occasions but didn't once complain to the linesman - I recall saying at the time about how he just ran back determined and knowing that he would get one going his way.

Now Shearer - there's a completely diffferent story!

It's obvoiusly not clever to come on a board where the majority of people are supporting England and try to get a reaction, but do you think its acceptable for someone to be beaten-up for supporting the other team? I witnessed a mod of drunked idiots who went on a rampage beating up English language students in London after last Euro champs. Not very clever is it! The good thing about this world cup so far is that most fans have stood togetehr, in a spirit of friendship and for the love of football, not the love of their respective countries.

On the broader subject of "having to support the country where you happened to be born" .... I know lots of principled football fans, Barnsley fans, Leeds fans, Aresenal fans and others who can't abide all the flag waving crap and can't stand having to line up behind a rubbish song such as "God save the Queen"

If "we" had a better anthem, I might get a little more excited. No way am I donning my cap to any landed gentry.

    Yeah but........

.....he's just talking about an attention seeking idiot cheering on the opposition (to whom he has no affiliation) in a pub full of England fans getting the reaction he's asking for which, lets face it, would probably be a clip round the ear.

    Agree re national anthem.

Why on earth should all those fans be singing about a woman who was probably not even watching the match? I don't believe in the monarchy and its privileges either. I am enjoying watching the world cup for the football but have no interest in England's progress as on principle I don't support them.

    Boo! **** off!

If it was down to me people like you would be banned from Oakwell. I bet you eat yoghurt.

Go and doff your hat to the Queen.

Bet she'll appreciate that. What's Oakwell got to do with England?

I see you didn't deny eating yoghurt.

No, seriously, I think the idea of royalty is abhorrent but they serve one very important purpose. The real power in this country, as with most others, lies with the military and, while ever the royal family are the heads of the forces, our country is safe from all the loonies and fundamentals who try to infiltrate our parliament.

As for not supporting your country's team that's up to you but those who wish to see them fail have something seriously wrong with them and probably eat yoghurt.

Not keen on yoghurt to be honest.

Just think people should be able to support their country if they want to but shouldn't expect us all to be patriotic if that's not our thing. I wouldn't want to live in any other country but doesn't mean I have to support squeaky voice and his over paid mates.
