You are right. however its the same as if we voted in and in a few years (or less) the whole thing collapses around our ears (given the Euro is unsustainable in its present form) I think the odds are that it will. Damned if you do - damned if you dont. I have tried to play the long game! I also remember (sorry I don't know how old you are and if you were around at the time) the same dire warnings when we refused to join the Euro. We came under sustained pressure with EXACTLY the same threats of disaster, economic collapse, mass unemployment, collapsing pound companies and banks moving and what happened. We dodged a bullet - that's what happened. This referendum campaign was fought on both sides by what will happen and what may happen. No-one knows (expert opinion came from invested parties and so I chose the current situation in the EU and history to make my choice. I dont hold with Brexiters were gambling as remainers, given the instability of the EU experiment and the federalisation ambitions the EU commission has.
I read with interest and as a leave voter ( see when the dust settles thread ) whereby i explain my reasons for voting to leave, i cant for the life of me understand why those who voted to remain, were so willing to hand over their right to a democratic system which we have in place to what amounts to a dictatorship under a federal state. We on the out vote have been accused of all kinds of nonsense, but yet i cant help thinking that most who remained to stay werent clearly thinking far enough ahead. It was proven on more than one occasion that Britain had no control in the outcomes at the very top table in this New world order super power, a super power that, whilst throwing morsels to the public to appease them was more about looking after the capitalistic values of the elite. Whilst i agree with freedom of movement there has to be some sort of control, which sadly is not taking place. The amount of displaced people throughout Europe is unbelievable the majority created by dicatators and their regimes, that we the Yanks and the rest of Europe have had a hand in, either or attempting to displace. These very same people under the name of freedom are the very same people who are formiing their own western ideologies within the European union ideologies which in the long term would possibly and will create problems not for this generation of youngster but the next if not checked....do we really want to loose our free will and end up unable to object or worst still have no choice. There are lots of things that we the general public are not told the majority kept and agreed on behind closed doors, we are lied to on more subjects than i care to type.....its always been the control of the masses always will be, more so if we ever allow a dictatorship to come to power. We now have the perfect situation whereby we the people have a chance to say this is how we want to live our lives lets not loose the moment the people have spoken Lets pull together and make it happen Lets all rally and fight the global tyranny thats taking place, at home fight the tory machine, call for a General Election get out there and support a Labour party and lets make those changes that benefit us the working class, Just dont sit back and squabble amongst ourselves lets move forward together.... Phew....rant over ....advance apologies if spelling and grammer are all over the place....i have my reasons....
Yikes!!! Excluding people fleeing terror Are you saying even if they turned up no money food clothes unable to speak the language and were totally reliant on others to provide for them for an indefinite period? Really? If thousands descended on mass into an area in the same situation?? Wow!! No wonder you think so many people are racist.
Fair enough! Not trying to provoke any argument, what is your opinion on the likelihood of the EU being sustainable without major reform in boths instances (had we voted to remain and now we have voted to leave)? What do you think would have happened regarding the ambition of the cmmission to create a Federal Europe? Would you have liked/accepted further political integration?
Who travels with no money, food or clothes unless they are escaping from a terrible situation? And if they did so and got a job and contributed to society then why shouldn't they stay? Just because they were (through nothing they did) born on that bit of land over there rather than this bit of land here? If they sat on their bums and did nothing then they would be homeless and hungry and wouldn't live very long to be a burden on anyone. Why should someone born in a poor country have to stay there? (And then of course any children they have would have to stay there and so on and so on, condemning every single person, including those not born yet, to a life of privitation.) It's like when people believed that people were born into a particular social class and should stay there because that is what was intended for them. Oh, and I think so many people are racist because they are saying and doing racist things and posting racist things through people's letter boxes. That's not just something I have dreamed up.
Boris doesn't see any changes to freedom of movement anyway so not sure where leaving the EU changes anything in terms of immigration. It is just an opportunity to repeal the bits of EU law the far right don't agree with. Brexit: Boris Johnson - time to build bridges with Remain voters http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-36637037
I didn't want more people to come here uncontrolled. My whole point, certainly around the way I voted is that we shouldn't discriminate in favour of the EU population against the rest of the world. I do believe that the numbers need to be set by the government though purely to allow our national infrastructure to be able to cope with a net increase in population. Certainly 300,000 per year with all the good will in the world is not sustainable and is having a negative impact on services, housing etc. It's fantastic that people can bring skills into this country especially when we have a shortage in a particular area but this impacts more and more than on just jobs. Of course we have some far right idiots, in the same was that we have some far left idiots in reality they probably will have cancelled out each other in the referendum hence the result was fair and democratic.
Pink fluffy bunnies I'm afraid too many cultures/ religions etc etc it would be carnage I think your right Tekky Hearts in right place though
I think the labour party vote has been, unfortunately, exposed for what it is. It contains a huge segment that has no interest in socialism whatsoever or social justice. It is defined by a body of the electorate who won't vote Tory because they're perceived as being "the bosses" and anti working man. On most issues, however, they're as right wing as your average Tory voter as illustrated by their willingness to transfer to the UKIP cause at the general election and the vote leave campaign in the referendum. As for taking back control and all the other canards laid in front of them by the out campaign. Who sets our budget? Who allocates money to education, the NHS, defence? Who dictates our foreign policy? We do. No significant part of our sovereignty was impacted by Brussels. What percentage of EU legislation did we vote against but had to accept? (2% is the answer). Of that 2% can anyone tell me what specific item they have strong issues with? The vote was swung on the immigration issue. Of all my colleagues and friends I've spoken to the exclusive issue was that they thought there were too many foreigners in the country. In fact that's not quite true. Of the 9 people I've debated it with since the vote six were of that opinion. One had gone with the conspiracy theory that the EU was a front for the big financial institutions to fleece us all. One wasn't sure which way to vote so he checked on the bookies odds the night before and decided to vote against as he thought it wouldn't matter. Just one had some insight into the wider issues involved. The others largely just looked pretty blank. Oh and one didn't vote at all because she had absolutely no clue about what the referendum was about. This is the quality of insight that has determined our future. It has left me utterly depressed about the future of this country; such part of it that will remain because there's every chance that Scotland will now leave. I feel pretty ashamed to be English at the moment.
I'm a proud Yorkshire man who's English maybe British but not European Pull your bloody socks up I'm not ashamed. Stop looking down on people thinking your opinions are far more important than others Bigot
