He suffered from making everything look too easy. Centre half? Why not. Either full back position? No problem. In the centre of midfield? Of course. On the wing? If I have to. Up front? Go on then. One of those players it was a true pleasure to watch. Gets forgotten but shouldn’t be.
Yes your right Gloucester red, just could not remember but what an atmosphere it seemed as if there were 100 thousand there.I suppose you don’t recall how many were there.
Hourihane is nowhere near Glavin, Redferan and Hignett. You could put him nearer to the first Ian Banks and Stuart Gray. I'd put him alongside Steve Agnew too which is praise in my book but Redfearn and Glavin, nah. Here's where Glavin made his name, for Partick when they beat Celtic in 71. Glavin's number 4 (ignore the team list at the start - it's corrected towards the end). After 2.15 he wins the ball in midfield, plays a one two and wins a corner for the first goal. Celtic signed him a few years later. Rangers withdrew interest on finding out he's Catholic.
I never saw Glavin and I only had the pleasure of watching Redfearn for one solitary season in 97/98 when I was only 8. The best midfielders that I’ve seen at Oakwell that I’m able to comment on are Hignett, Hourihane, Howard, McPhail and Gorre in that order.
