    Brum (play-offs), Boro 80/81

Brum was a bit rough in the play-offs, especially after the game.
Boro in cup80/81(Ayresome park) mi missis's brother got slashed all down his back and arms with stanley blades(very nasty)needed a hell of a lot of stitches.
R lass sez she didn't mind though coz all the team came to her house to see him.

I didnt go to the actual play-off game. But i think it was the same season when we lost there 3-1 in the league i think. It was raining money getting back to the coach. Just remember police getting everyone onto the coaches, and seen Birmingham fans claiming the gates that surrounded the away car park box thingy. We got told to draw the certains on the way home too, which didnt stop the bus been bricked.

No wonder i didnt go to the first leg of play-offs, which after i regreted :)

    Chelsea 81/82

we were locked in the ground for well over an hour whilst over a 1,000 Chelsea were marauding through the streets.
Portsmouth in 80/81 - we were held back for an hour then too... floodlights turned off etc and the police announcement: 'All those that came by coach, can you sneak out this way please?'
West Ham in 80/81 League Cup tie was hair-raising, as was Boro on occasions, not to mention Enfield in the FA Cup (White Hart Lane).
Bradford City's Valley parade used to be bloody awful in the 70's too!

    West Ham away 80/81

What the hell happened after the match? One minute escorted by 100's of police. The next minute hundreds of Hammers running out of the terrace housing and total mayhem. Jesus that was probably the worse battle i've been in. Well that and Middlesbrough! Enfield away was fun. Went with 10 coaches from The Coach and Horses, got there late. They had closed the gate when we got there saying that our end was full. The Police decided to let us in when they realised that we were 500 pissed up and angry Tykes. After the match was crazy..... all i remember is running for cover after they started to shoot at us from the flats!

RE: It definitely used to be when you could stand in the Kop

To be honest I think the atmosphere at Goodison is better. They are a lot more passionate that the Kopites. I find the Liverpool fans too critical . First time I went on the Kop they got beat by Newcastle back in '88. Seem to remember Super Johnny Hendrie scoring . The crowd were on their backs for most of the match.

Best atmosphere I've encountered , besides a Barnsley game, was when Everton beat Wimbledon to stay up. Amazing occassion.

Birmingham City ~ it's never nice having bottles thrown at you...
And Maine Road in the days of terracing was pretty grim...

Out of 70+ grounds I would say Maine Road

was the only ground where I felt worried going in / while in (due to flying coins) on on way out (due to flying bricks over the walls / alleys)

I can honestly say that I have never been intimidated in a ground including Bellend road, The Den, Brum etc etc.

Brum away in the playoffs was the 2nd worse outside the ground after the match. Our bus got a housebrick through he window which narrowly missed two young lads. This trouble was largely to do with the fact that the big headed ******* did not expect a whooping at home form us and certainly not one which essentially ended their hopes of promotion. Though I do contest that brummies are idiots of the first order and I hate the place with a passion.

All of this at all grounds where it has happened has been largely the result of blithering incompetence on the part of the police forces in question and the stewards.

    Derby - Baseball Ground

Derby around 1986/7 when teams charged double for away fans. Me and my mate, being frugal types, went in the Derby end and we scored. I shouted with joy then realised I was alone, even my mate had sussed out we were vulnerable and had scarpered. In a few seconds I was surrounded by 30 or so eejits who formed a circle and kicked seven shades of **** out of me. I could see men and women stood nearby, just watching. Finally I scrambled to my feet and managed to run halfway round the stadium to relative safety. Not a policeman in sight.

    Milwall - 3 years ago

Locked in for an hour after the game and 200 Barnsley fans escorted to the station by 12 police horses, dogs and 50 or so police. Then when they'd mad eus really conspicuous, the police left us.

The Milwall fans were fine, it was the sheer volume of police that was oppressive. Must have been practicing on us.

Sat in the home end once and every 50/50, ball the bloke in front of me shouted "Hurt him"
