After 40 years of eating junk Cadbury's confectionary, I managed to hit the habit on the head about 5 years ago when all the health risks about excessive sugar consumption were raised. Now if I buy something, it's a bar of 80% dark chocolate, which I enjoy more, as my tastes have changed. Although this thread is about sweets you don't see anymore, if you go into a newsagents the confectionary that is available hasn't really changed much over the last 40 years. When you think how for food in general the range of choice in Supermarkets is massively different to what it was back then (with all the foreign influences), I still the see the same 'chocolate' bars as I did in the 80s.
Ahh didn’t know that not seen them in years . They used to have a human head image in black on the wrappers which I assume is no longer the case now?
Me too. Bought a bar for £1.50 with the added bonus that no one else in my household will.want to share it!!
Still same the thing is they are now sold in packets I seem to recall they were loose years ago and you would ask for a quarter of them.
Haven't seen these in a long time... I used to get them from Woolies pick'n'mix counter... Those were the days. The chocolate soft centres were great too... Loved the coffee, orange, and strawberry ones. I could eat a quarter of those right now.
If I remember correctly, it had a Highland cow on the wrapper and was called McCowans Highland Toffee. Despite selling around 140 million bars every year, the firm which was based in Stenhousemuir apparently closed down in 2011.
Can I throw a question out in this domain - the coconut rings that you get in licorice allsorts - is it possible to buy these on their own - if so where? TIA you BBS know-it-alls
I wasn't expecting anyone mentioning these. Used to love them and kept raving about them to my Mrs. A fair few years back they were launched as a one off and she bought quite a few for me. Much smaller than back in the day, but the formula was spot on. (See someone mentioned quarterof, and pretty sure she got them from there). The other thing I wish they made to the same formula is pyramint and to a slightly lesser degree, mintola. I can't say I eat much confectionary at all now, but things certainly don't taste anything like they did with formulas changed and I suspect ingredients cheapened.
