RE: Either known as Rocket or Phyllis.... Depending on how he played. He had the asset of amazing speed, but had two faults. One was when he kicked the ball too far ahead and couldn't catch it, even with the supercharger on and the other was when he didn't kick it far enough and tripped over it. When he got his speed in tandem with the speed of the ball, he was magic. Best goal I recall his scoring was in an excellent 4-3 win over Reading. Earnshaw needed the ball to run on to, so he needed it playing ahead of him, so he could get up a head of steam and burst on to the ball past defenders. I recall that a Reading attack broke down and the ball fell to Evans just on half way. When he was tackled, the ball ran loose towards the right wing and the Rocket was into gear and on his way. He beat two defenders by sheer pace, approached two more on the edge of the area - kicked the ball between them and was past them quicker than going through swing doors and then only had the keeper to beat (Frank Smith?? Good goalie). Smith thought he was going wide, but Earnshaw slipped the ball inside him him, broke right and slotted into the empty net. It was like watching Nick Hammond, but with a happy ending!
I was there what a goal By the way is your user name anything to do with Barrie Thomas and Johnny Evans by any chance?
RE: Harry Roberts is our king ... Remember a game - just before kick-off when the big hunt was on for Harry Roberts. This guy came into the ground saying, "They've found him, They've found Harry Roberts!" Everyone wanted to know what had happened. He went on, "He was down at Hillsborough trying to show them how to shoot!" It was funny at the time.
You're going home in a Barnsley ambulance! And what about when they used to imitate an ambulance when the stretcher bearers came on to cart off an injured opposition player?
Not an old time classic but Elton John's a ..... homosexual ( repeated ) followed up with "and his best mate died in a car crash' Watford a few years ago and my alltime favourite

"Come on you Colliers!!" Did anyone ever chant this? It was our nickname at one time long ago. I prefer the name "The Tykes" to "The Reds", as it's distinctive, it only applies to us, whereas The Reds could be Liverpool and several others.
