Fabulous GB gold in the Men's Eights. It's always puzzled me that we never previously excelled in this event, given that the vast majority of people in the UK with any rowing experience probably gained it from rowing within an Eight. Bronze for the Women's Eights too, so a decent morning for the GB rowers.
Plus silver in 2008 and bronze in 2012 and 2020. Only Olympics in the 2000s they didn't medal was Athens in 2004.
I spent a week filming with the Men's 8 ahead of the Sydney games. Nice bunch of lads, considering they were reight posh buggers.
I understand why the Belgian cycling guy was so desperate for his bike change crew to hurry up but I think if he screamed at me like that I’d be tempted to take a few seconds longer.
I saw that training footage of her vaulting last week where she was practicing speed off the vault rather than landing The sheer force she hit those foam protectors was frightening. Some pace and power generated there.
Duly noted. It's more a long-standing perception on my part which dates back into the early 90s, when I was a mediocre rower in various lower boats for my college, and sharing lecture halls with some of the Boat Race crew, including a few Olympians from the 1992 games. Given the consistent strength of GB Olympic rowing squads it always puzzled me as to why the Eights were never our 'Blue Riband' crews at any games, given our familiarity with the format. It's feasible that the best rowers were cherry-picked to go into the other crews, such as the Coxless IV's when Redgrave and Pinsent were still competing, but it's always been a perception of mine, perhaps a harsh one, that the Eights (including the women's crews) would always be challenging for gold medals at every games. I guess I'm just an overly harsh judge, in terms of expectations - whatever the rowing equivalent is of being "a bit Wednesday" about it.
Nice to see Khelif get her win and move into the next round at the boxing, it's a shame there's those out their trying to taint her wins with their misguided beliefs and lies based on a corrupt organisation and a dodgy test. She also broke down crying after her win after taking abuse since her last win and the abuse aimed at her from her opponent, keep going lass go for gold!
