Yes they can stop it. They have in the lower leagues, what is the rule, ypu can only spend 15% of your years turnover figure on players? It still probaby puts us bottom of the pile in terms of budget but at least it levels out the playing field more and doesn't mean that clubs arw relying on billionaires to bankroll them.

Well perhaps. Not them but certainly. The obnoxious. Dave Richards, don't ever forget that he and scum were one of the main drivers behind the premiership

How can you think of these teams as our clubs? They are largely managed by foreign managers. The playing staff are also largely foreign. They are owned by Americans or Russians Or men from the moon. In what respect are they British? That they are based in the UK. I suppose that makes Nissan a British conpany as they have a few plants over here. Those days are long gone. Isn't the figure for British platters starting regularly about 25%

The teams in the premiership have destroyed the heart of football. The ruin the chances of our national team ever competing. The ridiculous system of the parachute payments means QPR, Bolton and Wigan can ignore financial factors and in effect cheat teams like us who cannot hope to compete.

    Makes me sick.

Because he's a sky bumboy. Don't ever expect him to understand, blinded by what the sky pundits tell him.

Man City's wage bill for 2012/2013 works out at £638,000 per day, £4.5million per week, £19million per month, £233million per year.

They lost £52million. The year before they lost £98million.

What a great way to run a business.

I'm the same Hemsworth. I'm very patriotic when it comes to British sport. During the Olympics I'll watch any sport if a British competitor is doing well. I even found myself cheering on our competitors in the shooting and the dressage.

I used to be the same with football. I have great memories of the period between 77 and 82 when English clubs won the European Cup (Champions league as it is now) 6 years in a row (Liverpool x3, Nottingham Forest x2, Aston Villa x1). Every player who played in those games for those 3 clubs and every player on the bench was either English or Scottish bar 2: Joey Jones from Wales and Steve Heighway from Ireland. All three managers were English: Bob Paisley, Brian Clough and Tony Barton. As a child, it genuinely felt like it was England that were winning not just those clubs. Incidentally, 5 of those players involved in the squads for those finals played for Barnsley later in their career: David Geddis, Andy Blair, David Johnson, Viv Anderson and Kenny Burns.

When an 'English' club plays in Europe these days the majority of players representing them are foreign, the manager is usually foreign, they are owned and financed by foreigners. That's fine, I'm not xenophobic, I don't hate them because of that, but I no longer support them because there's nothing British to support other than they happen to be located here. As I said at the start, I love British sport, but these teams aren't British. I started watching the Champions League games less and less and now I can't remember the last time I saw one. It wasn't this season, it could have been last or maybe even the one before. As a patriotic sports fan they don't offer me anything at all.

Inflation plays a big part in that though. Man Utd spend £30m on Veron and the same on Ferdinand when it was pretty much unheard of to spend that much.

I feel exactly the same about all modern football.

Incidently, you can add Martin O'Neill to your player list!

Too many foreigners. That's why Blackburn have my favourite premiership winning squad. Flowers, Sutton, Batty, Sherwood, Shearer, Le Saux etc. Quality British players. I can't see a team with so many British players winning the prem again in an hurry.

Oh yeah I am being devil's advocate a bit but at the end of the day I don't support a premier league club so as a neutral watching the premier league on tv I'd much rather watch an exciting league where 7 or so teams are in contention for the top 4 than a rigid "these are the top 4, 1 might occasionally drop out for a single season but this IS the top 4". If it weren't for the city money then the end of the season 2 seasons ago would have never happened, one of the most exciting non Barnsley football days for me. I also think, and this is where I and pretty much everyone will differ, the money in the prem now is good for the English players as it creates a lot higher standard of football that players have to keep up with if they want to remain in contention. Yes it is flawed and yes the % is getting a little too high of foreign players but it is forcing the England players to play a more continental style with high quality. Again, just my opinion and I know nobody will agree but hey ho.

I should also clarify that from a Barnsley perspective I dislike the entire concept of both the premier league and the big money clubs as it is forcing us further and further down the plug hole. I do, however, feel as a football fan it's a positive thing and makes the Premier League the most exciting in the world.

Sorry, but if you examine the stats (again, assuming they are correct) that statement is incorrect - even back then Chelsea were spending more than Man Utd.

From 2000 to 2003, Man Utd's gross spending was £80M, while Chelsea spent £87M (Hasselbaink / Lampard amongst others). The following season Chelsea spent £153M!!

People can have a dig at Man Utd all they want, but, to labour the point, Man Utd have done it the right way IMO - spending money generated from sales revenue, not a sugar daddy. They have continued to be more successful in terms of trophies than the other 2 (until this season at any rate) despite the oil money thrown at City and Chelsea. And look at the stats again, Man Utd are third in the spending table, whichever way you look at it.

What's Man Utd's turnover for the last five years? I don't mind the clubs spending when they're getting 75-100k crowds per game and millions upon millions of pounds through shirts sales and sponsorship etc but these tin pot clubs like City, Blackburn (in their day) Chelsea who couldn't fill their stadiums not so long ago are taking the piss. Man Utd have been getting huge crowds since t'war and don't get started on Arsenal who maybe wouldn't even be where they are today had we rightly been promoted.

What gives any club "the right" to be successful? Nothing. Money's been running it for years. Please refer back to arsenal, Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea fixing and promoting the gunners and raising them to the big time at our expense to save the two northern clubs arses 95 years ago.
Now tell me any of the four implicated clubs "deserve" anything... ...but that's life right?!

I feel very much the same Jay and those 3 European Cup winning clubs had to win their domestic league title to even qualify for the competition.
