In my opinion we have improved this season, if we survive this season, which i think we will it is because our squad is worthy of this division. Where as last season i think it was more of a case of the other teams being bad than us being good. (really not sure if that reads how i intend it to).

What would you like to see happen supertyke? Do you want davey sacked? Do you think we can attract anyone better?

We have improved in line with increased attendences.

What would you consider to be and acceptable year on year improvement, and when would you say we have reached the point of being at a level where anymore progress would be unrealistic. Unless you think it is realistic for us to win the premiership, champions league, fa cup and league cup year in year out.

Well obviously finishing just outside the bottom three of the premiership is a realistic long term goal as proven by the fact that we came so close to doing it on our first attempt.

I wouldn't say that not being safe with two games to go is an improvement on last years not being safe with two games to go.

If we go down then yes, if not then someone should be brought in to help him, and I don't mean Ryan Kidd either.

Can't you think of anything positive to say. It must be hard in your world.

Its much better now than applying for re-election as we have done on more occasions than playing in the premiership.

Progress is all relative to what you bench mark it against.

We could always have the fans favourite back. Spackman.

I'm satisfied with Davey as I was Bassett.

I think we will have to wait after the Cardiff game to give a proper answer. I personally think we have improved slightly, but don't blink your eye. The cup run as been fantastic, income to the club as improved, but the second part of the league campaign as been w*nk. That could be due to the cup run, but it also could do with the managers team selections, and his tactics. If we are in this league next season then he will be given a chance to improve the team with the money we have made. But he as got to get the forwards in to improve the team further. If not Simon Davey will be history next Feburary.

    Here we go then!

After 44 games compared to last season we are:

    2 points better off
    6 fewer defeats
    +11 Goal Difference
    15 fewer goals conceded

The defence is much stronger (despite being without Muller behind them for a significant time)
The midfield is much stronger (despite being without De Silva for a significant time)

The only area of the team he hasn't improved is attack

    2 fewer wins
    4 fewer goals

THAT'S WITHOUT EVEN CONSIDERING A RUN TO THE SEMI FINALS OF THE FA CUP COMPARED TO A 3RD ROUND DISMISSAL LAST YEAR.

Ritchie was taking us back down to Div3

too. Davey kept us up or did you conveniently forget that?

    No i didnt

But i also know sacking a manager 3-4 months into a season while allegedly not giving him the funds to improve the squad makes it a bit unfair to criticise him after fetching us up from a league we had been stuck in for 4 years.
Davey on the other hand has spent a fortune and barely improved us in over a year so i suppose that makes him God!

    Now then......

Muller and Steele are Better than Colgan
Kozluk, Foster and Van Hommet are better than Hecky, Austin and Tonge.
Nyanantga and Souza are better than Kay and Reid.
Campbell Ryce and Leon are quality additions to the club.

Da Silva is better than any midfielders we had at the club last season.

The only area we have struggled in is up front but I do believe that Macken is better than Owt we had last year.

But we were hardly blessed with Championship Strikers last year either!

Oh and you can play down the cup run all you like, but last seasons squad certainly wouldn't have been capable of beating Liverpool and Chelsea and wasn't good enough to beat Southend away in the cup!

    He's certainly no God....

and still has lots to prove and learn..... Spent a fortune? In contrast to the majorty of clubs in this division he's spent a pitance.

But you've never given him a chance and put him down at every opportuntity. You views lack any balance on the subject.

I liked Andy Ritchie as a manager and didn't want him to leave the club, but in hindsight it was definately the correct decision.

Some generally good points but Kay is a decent player

Im not so certain that Souza and Nyatanga are better than him

    Well

I think that yes we are marginally better than last year but you have to ballance that against the fact that the potential to strengthen was way in advance of anything available to any other recent manager anda lot of this opportunity was subsequently wasted.

    I was disapointed to see

Kay get released and at times I thought he did well last season. Maybe he did deserved another season, but I personally don't think he's better than Nyatanga or Souza..... But that's just my opinion!

    Who is BRYAN Kidd?

I was talking about RYAN Kidd, the barnsley assistant manager, there is also BRIAN Kidd the ex England assistant but I don't know of any BRYAN Kidd.

Ritchie was given the same amount of money to spend as Davey

he just chose not to spend it.

For a start we'd have had Kazim-Richards if it wasn't for him.

I think at the end of the day Ritchie was never going to be able to keep us up, and Davey is a better manager than him. Though, questions are still to be answered as to whether Davey will help Barnsley progress. I think we should give him next season for us to find out before we start calling for his head.

Better football, more points on the board, FA cup Semi-finalists........ & a better squad of players

In terms of squad I don't think you can argue we have improved by adding better quality players in all positions! Okay we need to prove the strikeforce but I think it could still be argued that they are an improvement on last years squad...... see below THIS SEASON vs LAST SEASON,

    GOALKEEPERS - Muller/Steele/Letheren vs Colgan/Lucas/Letheren/Mannone

    FULLBACKS - Kozluk/Van Homeot/Hassell/Werling/Tiniho vs Eckersley/Tonge/Austin/Hassell/Heckingbottom/Williams

    CENTREBACKS - Souza/Foster/Nyatanga/P.Reid vs Kay/Atkinson/P.Reid/Nyatanga

    CENTRAL MIDFIELD - De Silva/Howard/Leon/Togwell vs Togwell/McCann/Healy/Kell

WINGERS - Devaney/JCR/Ricketts vs Devaney/K.Reid/Howard (played wide most of last season)

    STRIKERS - Macken/Ferenczi/Odejayi/Nardiello/Mostto/Coulson/Christensen vs Richards/Hayes/Nardiello/Wright/Knight/Rajczi

no competition as far as I am concerned! and if we had stayed injury free and had a bit of luck in some games (e.g. at home vs Stoke) and not had the distraction of the FA Cup I feel we would have finished much higher in the division. At the end of the day we have still made a steady improvement! we are finacially sound and even made a profit this year! bring on next season IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!
