I'm from mexbororugh, might as well have been born on the moon as far as some people from Barnsley are concerned. #localshopforlocalpeople
A "true Cockney" is, allegedly, someone born within the sound of Bow bells. By analogy with this a true Barnsley fan may be thought of as someone born within the sound of the Oakwell roar. I was born at Pindar Oaks, which, I think, would qualify. On the other hand, Patrick Cryne, who is from Wombwell (though I do not know where precisely he was born) surely must be regarded as "one of our own", and I, personally, am happy to accept anyone into the fold who genuinely wants to belong to it.
For me, if they're a fan of Barnsley then they're one of us. It doesn't bother me if they're from Barnsley itself, the surrounding area, Wales, Finland or Dundee. However, in order to be a Yorkshire man, you have to be born within the old County.
Are all those - Glavin Devaney Hecky etc. - who are identified as 'one of us' happy with that? It may be by being 'one of us' they have to lose ties with somewhere else and that is something they don't want to do -- like MrC. And are there any players managers who can be said to be 'not one of us?'
You are one of us if you support Barnsley F.C. no matter what Town, City or Part of the world you come from, thats what I think.

oops premature ejaculation Nigel Spackman - not one of us; Johnny Steele - one of us Deon Burton - not one of us; Ashley Fletcher - one of us Danny Wilson - one of us; then not one of us; now one of us again Chris Morgan - was one of us; now (and for ever on) not one of us
Not sure where I stand on this one. My mum was from Thurnscoe, but my dad moved there in 1932 from Sunderland. He started watching Barnsley shortly after (he saw Bokas score with a throw-in in 1938 amongst many others). I was born in a Sheffield Hospital (1956) but grew up in Thurnscoe and Bolton-on-Dearne (1960). I left home to study in Newcastle (1974), my first job took me to Cambridge (1978) before a career change brought me to South Derbyshire (1983). Throughout all my adult life I've trekked up to Oakwell now and again because it seems to be in my blood. Am I one of us?
