If Labour had backed Leave I'd have voted Labour. It was as simple as that. All Labour offered was more uncertainty. I didn't want the possibility of another referendum and was sick of hearing about Brexit too to be honest. So I voted Conservative.

I can only speak for myself, but it felt like I spent much of the period of campaign engaging directly with people about what they were voting for and why. I had several projects at the time and saw direct insight over most of the campaigning time.

There was a shift about half way through and the insight was getting darker in sentiment. I've no idea how many people voted for Leave for the most grim of reasons, but I do think it was significant enough to shape the result. And I think for many, its that reasoning alone that has whipped up the hostility against leave voters. That and the blatant lies and scent of corruption and collusion of the campaigners themselves.

I think just coming on to a website where there is a predominant opinion affects how you see the world and influences your narrative. Coming on here certainly influences me about all kinds of things. Being exposed to other pinpoints of view, if they are backed up with reasons, thoughts or emotions and if these are clearly explained, is healthy and makes me question myself and what I believe in. Surrounding myself by similar opinions and being unable or unwilling to listen to and evaluate another's point of view because it is easier to believe that you are wholly right is when we get a deep schism in society.
You've just made a sweeping statement saying that this government epitomises what is wrong with politics. I would say that the people who voted in the previous elections are who shaped this government and all previous governments and if the electorate shows an appetite for certain policies etc, then future governments will emulate it.
I'm just about to give blood plasma so will have to pick this up later.

I hear what you’re saying. I too detest right-wing politics, having been a victim myself on many occasions. I’m a member of a far-left party and an active political campaigner.

I’m not trying to say ‘tolerate Toryism’, more… ‘be polite and try to understand why others do’. Because you can’t make others see the light if your first instinct is to say something that’ll **** them off

But tha from Barnsley. People vote for Donkeys.
I'd rather have a Donkey running the country than this muppet.
My contempt for this man and his party holds no bounds. No moral values whatsoever

I do mate. But when they deliberately divert from the genuine question and go off on a tangent. ( Eg But if Corbyn was in charge ? Wtf "HE'S NOT IN CHARGE") that's when I get fckued off) One poster who went to pastures new. Would lay the groundwork then disappear. Leaving those that supported him and joined in. To come out with that typical statement. And there are several tories that fit that profile on here. One or 2 will engage properly. The majority don't. I don't think I've had a spat with SD for example. (But spoken openly on occasion) who puts himself in the spotlight. Hopefully he sees the tories for what they are.

No it doesn’t, what I read on here does not affect how I see the world irrespective of whether it’s a predominant opinion or not. Sorry, but that smacks of saying ‘stick a red rosette on a donkey in Barnsley and it’ll get in’ As I said I can go from experience and I am not always surrounded by similar opinions, before lockdown, I was often at odds with friends in the local pub about politics. The deep schism in society exists because of what I put in my original reply. I still say this Govt epitomises what is wrong with politics. Even if I didn’t vote for the party in Govt I still should be able to trust that they are governing honestly, being accountable, acting in the best interests of the Country, and not caught up in Sleaze, Nepotism, Cronyism. Not as important as other issues, and I always say clothes don’t make a person, but we have the most scruffy looking, unkempt PM I can ever recall.

They only say Barnsley people would vote for a donkey to trivialise how much Barnsley people hate the Tory’s .
But it’s True even a donkey would have more compassion and concern for the whole community than any Tory .
Tory = I’m alright Jack , Tory = me me me , Tory = no hand up for the less well off , Tory = Greed above Environent,Above compassion,
Above the greater good of the whole community .
For those reasons I’m out Fek the Tory’s .

I posted some time ago that I won't get into Brexit discussions again so I will only say that I agree with you but won't respond further.

Whatever. When in Stroke rehab. They fed me toast. One bit with marmite, other one jam. 3 times a day. Only vegan option. Had to get out, sooner than should have. See my girls.. Audrey, Ellie, Jeannie. (Mam, dog, bird.) Bluffed the hoops. Got out early, just before Christmas.,:)
