Clearly, when you look at the amount of wastage and Beaurcracy within the business I would say they have scope for a lot more streamlining
I have no doubt that Osbourne came across as a shady dodgy liar pretty much because he's not particularly bright. Unwatcheable for me as I can stand Osbourne and find Andrew Neil to be an absolutely embarrassingly bad interviewer who only cares about pushing himself into the limelight and doesn't care either about the answers given or the issues. Also one of the most obnoxious people I have ever had the misfortune to work for. Truly a gobshite. I find the adversarial nature of the 'debate' depressing and feel it adds little or nothing in allowing people to make an informed position. I'm quickly moving into the could not give a flying **** camp. In fact as no one seems to be campaigning on behalf of the flying ******* I may push myself forward.
What I like about Neil is that he is never intimidated by the person being interviewed and he does not let them off the hook. I like Paxman for the same reasons.
I'd be very disappointed if senior cabinet ministers were intimidated by him. His style may be a little on the abrasive side but I think that is probably the best way to really interrogate the seasoned politicians and leaders. It's all about opinions though.
This won't be a popular opinion but I would add another reason to the list of reasons why we have **** politicians - we don't pay them enough. Pay peanuts, get monkeys is the old adage isn't it. How can we entice properly competent, knowledgeable and highly skilled people who have had a long stretch in the real world at top levels to bring that experience to politics when we only pay them 70k?. Compared to senior management level salaries in business, it is peanuts.
I do agree to an extent but when you take into account their expenses and other perks they are pretty well remunerated for what they do. Cabinet ministers could reasonably argue that they are comparable to senior managers. We do have some useless bone idle tossers as MPs but we also have some very passionate and capable MPs too who weren't put off by the salary.
I thought George Osborne handled the interview pretty well . Andrew Neil's main objective whilst interviewing is to interrupt and pressure the interviewee . Everyone hates tories for obvious reasons but at least they believe in their policies unlike the lilly livered labour and liberal party which are totally untrustworthy and un-electable.
Based on the results of the last election I'd say that not everyone hates them. They definitely are not a protest vote.
I think there might be something in this. I'd be happy to pay them more, but, I'd want expenses claimed as proper expenses, none of this having your wife, son and daughter as PAs. I'd also want 5 years gap between leaving politics and taking up paid Chairs/advisory roles.
What we don't have is people on the street. Ie your average man. To be a politician you need to have **** loads of money and backers to start with. And then your not always going to get in. So no matter what happens your average bloke who just might be able to make a real difference based on actual common sense and honesty. Basically has zero chance of being elected.
