    Let me tell you about my work - I work at Shaw Lane, where over the past few months I’ve been working on projects to support
    People with mental ill health /low mood, by using outdoors activities;
    People who are isolated or lonely
    People with disabilities who need to improve their employability skills
    Women - to play Walking football
    Disabled young adults - to play football.
    Building a sensory garden for disabled people.
    Helping the resident sports club attract members particularly from groups in need.

    Something amazing is happening.
    The young people on the mental health project have started out helping to construct the sensory garden to help disabled people.
    Some young people from Greenacre have decided they like being on site so much they have decided to stay to talk and play games with the isolated people.
    One of the isolated people, mourning the loss of his wife, has decided he wants to help design the sensory garden, and he’s out looking for recyclable items and plants.
    A lady from the older people’s group is giving a walker to someone who is struggling with pain and mobility.
    One of the members ofthe mental health group likes Crown Green Bowling that much, that he just goes straight there. Another has made friends with someone else in the group, and they can often be found laughing and joking around the site.
    Two members of the mental health group have now joined the disability football group.

    Every single person I’ve mentioned has faced very recent difficulties. Not only have they found confidence to join in with something, but they are now helping others. It’s really heartwarming, and I hope it will give you encouragement.
    None of this may be for you, but there is something out there that might make a difference.
    And if you can’t find anything - come to Walking Cricket on Tuesday - it’s the only thing we’re struggling to get off the ground!

    Hope you feel better soon. Was going to say if you want someone to meet for a pint to chat all things Barnsley or anything else I would be happy to until I realised you were based over in the US! Be a pretty long trip for a drink aha but if you want someone to chat to drop us a DM etc.

    As for my day today, I had a slightly traumatic one tbh. I was out walking the dog this afternoon and I bumped into what to me was a massive grass snake on the path. It clearly was in a rush to get somewhere and was going a bit nuts. I'm absolutely petrified of snakes so I sprinted off the opposite way like Usain Bolt the day he broke the 100m record. My heart rate went through the roof and I was freaking out the whole rest of the way in case more appeared. Might have to move house now I know we have those in the area :D

    Sorry to hear you're suffering. Times can get very tough but don't lose hope. Everything passes eventually and the good times will always be that little bit sweeter as a consequence. Keep going, keep busy and enjoy the little things. I gone you're taking steps to get the help and support you need. Reaching on here is, actually, quite a good thing to do. Well done.

    I've been through some very dark moments in my life with my mental health. Fairly recently, too. But it's given me a lot of experience. So if you ever need an empathetic ear, you're free to message me any time. If only for a chat about anything and everything.

    Take it easy and be kind to yourself. Take some time out to do some things you enjoy.

    Talking helps mate, it really does! I found talking to a stranger easier than talking to friends and family personally when I was at my darkest. I received a cold call from EE, trying to sell add ons to my mobile phone plan. I explained to the guy that I was going through a break-up and was trying to reduce my outgoings so I could afford to move out of the house. He empathised with me, and before I knew it, I was completely opening up to him. He was patient, and whilst he didn't give me any advice or anything, he listened to me. And that meant more than anything.

    What's more, I stopped getting nuisance calls from EE! Win win!

    In all seriousness, in the end my attitude became, tomorrow might be different. It took a good 15 months or so, but eventually the day after was different.

    Just putting out this thread tells me you are strong and will get through this low time. Its amazing how many people understand how you are feeling. I do, keep doing the good things.

    A few things I’d like to say and I hope to help:
    1) well done and congratulations on reaching out.
    2) it’s real and you are not imagining it, so shut off the voice that tells you it’s not.
    3) get some medical help, a lot of this is chemical and they have some amazing drugs that can restore chemical balance. See a doctor.
    4) life is what it is and it’s not your fault. Try to take a broader perspective. When you’re at the coal face all you see is coal. Back away from it go to the surface and find a hill where you can see further.
    5) recognise that everything passes with time and although it’s hard at this time to get through this time. This time will pass and better times are waiting.
    6) find someone to talk to sometime’s it really helps to be listened to even if the other person doesn’t say anything. If you can’t find anybody send me you number and the time difference and let me call you.

    Never underestimate the power of people: their support, kindness, and just being there when you need them to be. Never underestimate the value of fresh air and long walks, or a change of scenery. Try not to drink too much. Keep a gratitide diary, just writing down the things - however small you perceive them to be - you are grateful for can help immeasurably. Understand that things take time to heal. Expect to feel all the emotions, and be grateful for them. Know that there are some amazing people on this forum who will always be on hand to lend an ear. And above all, take care.

    My day: a fairly average working day, followed by a quiz at the local coffee shop. And random fact of the day: my nose trimmer started working again :)

    You’ve made the biggest and hardest step admitting it pal. The good thing is, you are getting on the upward journey. There will be difficulties and setbacks, but you’ll get there.

    I use sport as a crutch for my mental health. I play football and golf. There are lots of groups in the area for this. Good luck and drop us a pm if you need anything.

    Good morning, sorry you asked about my day. I'm on my 8th day of Covid and I've been isolating. Wife's got it too and she's in hospital because she became seriously dehydrated. She's now stabilised and hopefully will be home today. Watched a couple of films between sleeps. Saw one about Herman Melville collecting background for Moby Dick by interviewing a survivor of the whaling ship Essex of Nantucket which was destroyed by a whale in the 1820s. Good film but I found myself on the side of the whale.
    Then watched Dune 2021 a blockbuster with fantastic special effects. Lots of religious imagery. The star bloke was clearly Christ and his mother the Virgin Mary, or maybe that's just how I read it. They didn't play it for laughs although the stern seriousness had me giggling in places.
    Finished off with "we own this city" on sky Atlantic watched two episodes about a culture of gangster cops in Baltimore.
    Haven't been out for a week and I think I'll have a little walk while avoiding people today.

    A friend of mine, his son was in a similar situation a few months ago, was finding life very difficult so went to go get some help, one of the things they said to him was to do something that you and you only enjoyed and benefited.......a suppose we all have that one thing in our lives that puts a smile on our face, great you feel you can speak out though, as others have said, my inbox is ajusté open mate :)

    Tomaiba, just wan a say i'm sorry to hear abart your situation, i'll tell thi abart me an wot r went through, in the begining i just used to shut everybody art and try an cope with everything, that big man syndrome we tend to av, ive gorra problem and i'll sort it. Anyhow to cut a long story short, we av family, we av friends, we av more than wot we see, i was lucky i ad a wife who was stronger than me, kids that wer stronger than me, and Grandbairns that wer stronger than me. I used to sit an cry, i'd walk to tarn, on way there i'd cry, in tarn id cry, on way back i'd cry i was a complete mess, i ad Depression, I'm 20 stone and not fat i'm an ex Squaddie, done tours of Iraq, Bosnia, Ireland, ex boxer ovver100 fights from middleweight all the way up to super heavyweight, ex Rugby player ie Union and League, i thought i could handle ought, im telling you now, get thi sen to Doctors asap, cos if your on ere like this you need help. If you cant see a doctor then dont be ashamed, i was an suffered, get thi Best mate, thi Brother, Sister, Mam, Dad anybody close to talk. I was on the Brink, and nar im back as fik, daft an ugly as ever, but im ere. Please talk to someone and dont put ya family, friends through unnessasary pain. Tek care mukker and look forward to hearing from you soon. x

    Lovely message and well put for us Barnsley folk. However, Tomaiba is American so might (or indeed might not) need a Barnsley dictionary for words like rooor, feights, mukker etc.
