People clutching their pearls over a can of soup being thrown at some Glass covering a painting - which obviously did zero damage to the actual painting might reflect that thousands of environmental activists have actually been murdered at the hands of corporations and governments "protecting" their mineral and logging rights while destroying the environment.

The way things are going, there mightn't be many people left to take a view, the Earth will be turning into Venus.

What’s the point of any protest, if it doesn’t disrupt?

It took riots before they would get rid of the Poll Tax.
This wholly unfair policy which no one in the country wanted even most Tories was bring foisted upon us choose what because the Tory grandees were so afraid of the dictator Thatcher that the my rolled over and snd let her have her way .
No amount of peaceful protesting or small time disruption was gonna stop her as proved for her one year experiment in Scotland .
It took a monumental effort by the protesters who met the police violence with their own medicine .
People complaining of protests and protesters whilst gaining all the fruit .
Left to some people children would be still down the mines . Fekin Nimbys

Difference now of course is half of these protestors look like they have never worked a day in their life, have almost certainly never paid a bill other than their phone (unless mummy and daddy pick up the tab for that too), and they're stopping ordinary workers getting to work so that they can pay their bills in a cost of living crisis. And they're stopping the emergency services too, bravo! I'd love to see how they'd have gotten on in the poll tax riots, they're rubbing sleep out of their eyes at 8.30 in the morning and they have no alternative plan.

You have no proof of this whatsoever and seem quick to make a prejudiced view of them without any foundation whatsoever .
I’m sure they’ll come from many different backgrounds and lifestyles .
Protests are for a reason and not just made up fantasies or fairytales .
Whatever the reason will be prejudiced by different people on different subjects .
I remember the Brixton riots and people calling them because of what the thought or perceived them to be snd years later lots of these doubters were proven wrong and nowadays we are horrified at the conditions and prejudices these people were enduring at that time .

I'm going on various 'Leaders' of Just Stop Oil who have been interviewed recently and come across to me in a poor light, clueless and very naive. I don't understand why you (and they) keep conflating their cause with previous protests. I have seen numerous examples recently of these white activists who keep comparing what they are doing to the civil rights movement. That is a complete insult, it is another example of white, middle-class kids aligning themselves with black causes, and it sounds all too familiar. They are the prejudiced ones in that they claim to speak for groups of people that they no nothing about and, ultimately, rob them of their voice.

The big fundamental point you, and one or two pro protest/disruption advocates on here are missing is - protesting is easy. Anyone can pick a bandwagon , jump on it and join in. What none of them on issues like Oil and fossil fuels have to offer is a vaible alternative plan. Simply stopping Oil without a medium exit plan is not viable, practical. We can't just Stop! I am not arguing that their long term objective i.e to push Govts into action is wrong but they are hitting the wrong target i.e. the public. As someone has said, they will not win over most people however righteous their cause. Wrong methods being used.

Thene there is the case of all the plastics that come from Petro Chemicals. Yes... many plant based substitutes are now gradually replacing petro chemical based plastics but everything from cars, planes, utensils, white goods...fridges freezers, washimg machines window frames etc are made from them. You can't just STOP that overnight.

Ask any of these protesters what their solution is and they will have no viable option. Protesting against economic plans, Govt policies -Human rights etc viable alternatives exists, hence the reason you cannot compare these protests to the suffragettes. Should women be given the vote... Yes! change the law.... Job done .

You really don’t know anything do you ?
Just mumbling out the same old media bias !
Every protest and every cause will have these accusations thrown at them and the journalists will edit their columns and their tv slots to portray whatever view they decide , done of these interviews won’t even be protesters as has been the case many many times before .

Just on this point Tekky, before someone jumps in and says you're generalising or whatever; they did ask one of the spokespersons, repeatedly, about an alternative, and he kept saying that's not the point. Well, take oil away and then what? Just take it away? There needs to be a replacement, a viable solution. They don't have one. They're waiting for 'the science' to invent one, and in the meantime they're just going to keep disrupting people going about their business. It's crazy.

That's very charming of you Marlon, thank you for that measured response. I'm going on an interview I watched with one of their main spokespeople, and I'm judging him on his responses. I could argue he knows nothing about an alternative solution based on what he said. I'll bow out of trying to converse with you any longer however, as when people get so personal and say 'you don't know anything', there really isn't any point in continuing is there? I wish you all the best.

Of course there’s viable options and not just protesters but politicians etc will tell you there is , I’ve seen plenty of views and alternative arguments so I don’t see why you won’t have !
Just because the politicians etc with the most airtime tells us there isn’t an option doesn’t mean there isn’t .
Every protest has been met with the same jargon and reasoning as you are stating even the ones you have acknowledged had the same prejudices , time is the difference and the way the climates going we won’t have that luxury .
These thing being replaced as you say isn’t because the lack of technology it’s because the oil industry would collapse the capitalist system and are too stubborn and greedy to let their industry change .

The irony !!!!, you make a post judging anyone snd everything and calling the idlers etc them when someone responds with a reasoned response you get monk on and try to make it out I’m abusing you .
I don’t give a monkeys if you don’t respond to me my answers are the same .
You’ve done this loads of times with others , pick a debate then debunk any response . On yer bike !!!

I don't want to fall out, but comments like 'you don't know anything do you', and 'you make a post judging anyone and everything'? The first one is an insult, the second is a bare-faced lie. And your closing statement is a poor attempt to alienate me in front of others - maybe you will succeed - but it's no wonder people talk about pile-ons etc on here when you come out with rubbish like your last statement. I like to think I am measured and take into account other peoples' views before responding. I respect other people and I stand by that and the way I conduct myself. I also don't 'do it loads of times with others' and I don't 'debunk any response.' These are absolute lies. Anyway, what's the point. As for using the word 'abuse' - who mentioned abuse? That's an insult to people who suffer actual abuse. You go your way, I'll go mine.

The usual suspects would have said the same about suffragettes or black rights etc.

Always odd to watch people being on the wrong side of history (if there's much of it left).

What a load of baloney ,
You really are looking for the sympathy button,
I’ve no intention of making you look, feel or anything to other people whatsoever ,
I’m sure people can judge for themselves about other posters .
I put my views forward as most will tell you on here if you didn’t already know , I don’t go fishing for Sympathy , support or any such thing and I certainly don’t ask anyone to form their views against anyone on here .
I resent what you are implying but I’m not surprised tbh .
