Interesting fact on prosecutions like this is that the Police do not have to provide the evidence on request unless you need it for evidence to go to court. Most will provide but as an examp,e Notts Police don’t and only way to get it is to say you want to go to court.
My mate worked in ticket office at South Yorks police, she said if you contacted ticket office they would provide evidence. Your right not all police authorities do so you have to go to court. Bit naughty in my opinion
Just out of interest how do the police prove the gantry was illuminated. The cameras that nick the cars are behind the matrix signs so it can’t be in the same shot.
Personally I think there's a few things that need to be taken into account, the don't speed and you won't get done argument is all well and good if its a 'fair cop' and you know the speed limit, I once got done on an unfamiliar road as the limit changed from 60-40 just inside the limit change as I was cruising along at 50. On the face of it you think fair enough but I was puzzled as I'd not seen any change of limit signs. As it happened I had to make the same journey not long after and stopped to look and sure enough there was the sign stuck in the middle of a bush covered by weeks of growth. I can only assume the evil git was hidden behind another bush and was well aware of what they were up to. Also although I try to never speed, anybody who does a lot of miles and says they never accidentally slip above the speed limit are just kidding themselves.
Accidentally is fair enough, you can’t help it if you literally didn’t know. It’s the purposefully speeding and being proud of it and that’s the problem. Especially when they then love to act as if the one’s doing the right thing are the one’s in the wrong and to be mocked.
It's the fact that the way you are caught has a bearing on how you are treated that I don't like. You could be a tearaway who is driving an illegal vehicle, off your face on drugs or drink, bald tyres etc and get caught on camera. A few days later, you get your NIP, pay the fine, happy days. On the other hand, you could be a normal, sensible driver who behaves responsibly who just happens to make a mistake and drive over the limit but get stopped by the police. No happy days for you. It's a moving violation,,,, blow into this, "that front tyre looks a bit soft," "Why have you got money in your glovebox". "Where are you going at this time of night" etc etc. Surely it's not fair to treat people charged with the same crime in different ways.
If the goal is to get people to slow down there's no difference to them being flashed by another motorist or being flashed by a camera. People will slow down if they think a camera is there, and will be more cautious in future in case it is there again. Any copper pulling motorists over for flashing other drivers is just being an arsehole trying to protect their revenue streams.
If it's not about money making, why do you never get a warning? For example, dear Mr Smith, our camera clocked you at 36 MPH in a 30 limit, this is a warning letter, should you be clocked speeding in the next 3 years you will be fined for both offences
That sort of what the Speed awareness course is though isnt it admittedly you have to pay for it but points stay off your licence and your insurance cost doesnt increase due you to being an increased risk for the next 5 years
The goal is to educate the ones who go too fast, hence the speed awareness course. Someone being flashed by a motorist, who would benefit from the course, now doesn’t get picked up and sent on it whereas they would if a camera got them.
You You do with the community run ones. The ones where you see locals from a village at side of road. Letter comes and says you’ve been spotted, do it again and you will be reported etc.
A friend ran one on his road which was being used as a rat run, they were out for a couple of hours and caught 5 or 6 speeders... who embarrassingly turned out to all live on the street.
