Chris Dagnall, Iain Hume and Maceo Rigters. Top class. Tony Bedeau on the bench. We've been spoilt. Give me goals any day over cart horses.
We lost both league games to them that season, and had not beaten them since L1 playoffs Hume was bang average if we'd paid 250k for him never mind £1 million plus - peoples view is clouded by that incident but he was only every a scorer of (infrequent) good goals, never a good goal scorer.
Yeah unfortunately Hume was disappointing before the Morgan assault, and he paid back very little of the 1.25 mill with goals.
I wasn't happy with this season. I think the team has a soft under belly. That said, on our day we can beat anyone. I'd rather face Peterborough in a Play-Off Final than Derby and don't think we played that badly the other day. Barring a write off at home to Bolton because of the ref there isn't much between the teams and I think we can beat them. Then the other Semi. Peterborough will give Wednesday a game and I really can see it being a Peterborough in the Final. A game I think we can win. Just which Barnsley turns up and can they take a lead. If I were Duff I'd consider a sports psychologist coming in for a few sessions because the going behind hoodoo isn't a coincidence. It has substance.
On going behind and coming back to win, someone asked the other week if we achieved it under Stendel in league one. A memory just came to me of the last home game, when we really needed to beat Blackpool (promotion was confirmed the following week when Pompey and Sunderland lost). We were 1 down after 15 minutes and came back to win 2-1. I'm sure it wasn't the only game we came back from going behind to win. That team showed when the pressure was really on they could deliver. I hope the team now show the same heart in the play-offs and should we go a goal behind really pull it out the bag when it matters.
