    Speaking of overreaction

I'm not gutted about the result - we still qualify for the next round in a competition I don't really have a lot of interest in. I only paid out to watch as I was curious about our second string players.
I am however very concerned about the performance - sometimes freak results happen (see our home game v Port Vale) but this wasn't a freak score line - in fact only conceding 5 flattered us somewhat, and it could easily have been 7 or 8.

The back 5 looked like they had never played together before - surely they must have at least practiced in training but Bradford carved us open with ease.
This was a chance for players to make a case for inclusion in the matchday squad - I am prepared to give Connell and McCarthy a bit of benefit of doubt as they are coming back from long injuries but what is the excuse for the rest of the starting 11- or even the subs Cotter excepted

As for the die for BFC comment - seriously! - there are causes I would die for but Barnsley FC isn't one of them.

Regarding the Collins out - I am no fan of the style of football he has brought and would shed no tears if he went, but he isn't getting sacked whilst we are still in the playoff spots. For me its too early to be talking of sacking him. And I don't really think an experimental team in as completion most fans see a low priority will influence the board much.. I'm far more concerned by league results and to a lesser extent the FA cup. The fact we can never recover when conceding first and the fact we haven't beaten a top half league 1 side this season are of much more concern to me than yesterdays debacle. We couldnt even beat Horsham at home once we went behind

McCarthy should be playing a lot better in my opinion. He’s been back fit about 3 months now. He was playing in this competition in early September & in U23’s games before that. Been honest I just don’t think he’s up to it.

It wasn’t a strong team we put out last night at all.

Killip is the only one that definitely starts Saturday & that’s only due to injury.

O’Keeffe might start, it still seems 50-50 between him & Cotter.

I’d. be surprised If Connell starts Saturday, there were some nice passes but I still don’t think his fitness is quite there to start a league game but I suppose that also depends on when Russell gets back from international duty.

So you’ve got between 1 & 3 players who played last night who are likely to start at the weekend.

All of Roberts, Williams, De Gevigney, McCart, Cadden, Kane, Russell, Styles, Phillips, Cole, McAtee & Watters weren’t involved.

Cosgrove’s probably 4th choice striker & Marsh is 5th or 6th choice. Yoganathan is what? 7th choice central midfielder, Atkinson’s even further down the pecking order. He’s probably more like 10th choice. McCarthy’s probably 6th or 7th choice at centre back, Shepherd 4th or 5th choice. Hickingbottom about 8th choice.

Many of the players who played last night weren’t even back ups, they were back ups to the back ups.

I didn’t watch the full game as we were dead & buried so I put the jungle on at 9 but we’re already through & barely anyone that featured will start Saturday so I can’t see it doing much harm.

If we were bottom of the group & played a stronger side then it’s far more embarrassing.

I mean, nobody knows what will happen from here on in, but at present we're 3 points better off after the same number of games as last season and that's with letting some good players go and bringing in what have been arguably worse replacements.

    So....?
