to be fair on this statement is does say 'All proceeds from the buyout of the contract will be utilised to strengthen the squad ahead of the forthcoming season' - https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2021/june/valerien-ismael-departs-oakwell/

It seems to be on some statements but not all. I guess it depends on how much we make.

The thing is, we are spending the money. Fees were paid for several of the players in this window, and every player we signed last season (barring Dike), so it is being reinvested.

Now we have reverted to Plan A and only signing U23s, it doesn't matter who comes in. Struber was only 'successful' because he convinced the owners to tweak the model and bring in some experience. Ismael was a superb leader and got everyone to buy into his brand of football but he benefitted from the falseness imposed by Covid but there were signs towards the end of the season, it wouldn't last. It's mainly about players at the end of the day and this squad does not offer enough of a goal threat. None of our strikers get in the six yard box (Morris included) and unless Oulare turns up trumps none are going to get in double figures (Cauley might with penalties). We have always had success in the past by having goals from elsewhere, midfield, wing backs and defenders but you look at our squad and apart from Helik I can't see where the goals are going to come from. The only thing that could have saved us IMO was to bring in an experienced home-grown manager to compensation for the lack of experience in the squad and he may have been able to get the best out of what we've got.

I am not surprised with the shower that are running the show(poorly) but it would be lovely to see some home grown talent in charge

Rather than statements after specific signings I thought they'd said something very close to this when they first took over, a statement of intent for all future sales rather than a particular amount of money from a specific sale. I took that as meaning it may also have to cover some running costs. They didn't say that but I don't think they were being dishonest by not mentioning it. Running costs are a fact of life and it would be pretty stupid to spend every penny from a transfer on a new player but then have your utilities switched off because you can't afford the gas bill.

The caveat here is I can't remember the specifics and I may be completely wrong.

I've no problem with bringing a coach in from overseas. But if we bring somebody in that cannot bring any of their own staff again, then it will just be foolish.

It probably is for a season or two pushing for promotion, but I very much doubt that a club of Barnsley's size is sustainable long-term in League 1, as attendances would start to tank whereas many overheads would remain similar to what they are in the Championship. Also if we were there for a while that would suggest that we weren't producing very many players worth buying for those higher up the pyramid.

Be interesting to know who the people Schopp wanted to bring with him was.
On face value you would expect at least some would have been this working with him at the time.
If that’s the case then are the rules different for back room staff as he managed to qualify?

Pretty sure I read somewhere that one was blocked because of the immigration criteria, while another he wanted to bring in was blocked by their club.

Imagine that, a club blocking a move for their backroom staff. As opposed to losing Head coach, Assistant coach, sports scientists, head physio, goalkeeping coach... Have I missed any?

Maybe I'm missing the point, but if we're talking about the money from Val, how do you know it hasn't been reinvested into the playing staff? Nobody knows how much we paid for Benson and Iseka, who I think are the two players we paid a fee for in the summer. Let's not forget the wages for them, as well as Cole, Oulare and whatever contribution we're making to Gomes and Vita. We didn't sell anyone in the last window (of note), so the money for them must have come somewhere.

Without a breakdown of every player sale, you honestly can't say that we haven't spent every penny of the money received for Val (or any other player or manager for that matter).

As many people on here keep harping on about, although I disagree, we will go for the “Cheap” option.

As such, it will most likely be from Beta Centauri.
