Very true, BB. But we all know that isn't happening. Maybe another "cheapie" from the continent, but anything meaningful? Forget it. We are down. Charlton can settle for a draw on Saturday and still be six points ahead of us, but with that comfort blanket I expect them to win. As for the Wednesday game, if ever a team was equipped to beat us - despite probably being a poorer footballing side - it is the Fowls If you see odds against for Wednesday in that game my advice is take them.
We don’t need and would argue want big signings. We need good solid players who can improve the defensive side of the team. A Kevin Long type player who can only be described as a journeyman.
They won’t spend their own money and I doubt there’s much left from the player sales last summer after purchasing over a dozen, mostly poorer quality footballers on lengthy contracts so there’s absolutely no chance of any decent quality footballers coming in the next few days for me. Utter shambles that is Barnsley FC right now. But hey, we can be proud we are solvent, that’s all that matters apparently
Some on here think we are and I’m done trying to debate about it tbh. The whole show that is Barnsley FC this season has left me numb to it all. These owners are failing massively in delivering a successful footballing entity to Barnsley and as such, should do the decent thing and be looking to sell us to someone who knows a bit about English football before we are dragged lower and lower down the football leagues.
I expected us to struggle once the window closed last summer, yes, based on our recruitment and player departures. And said so. I’ve said we will be relegated all season. Struber’s arrival breathed some life into the impossible and so I might well have been wrong. It would not be anything like the first time, nor the last and, I would be over the moon if we stay up. Because whilst I disagreed with the pure and exclusive way we recruited last summer - zero experience - I do admire the absolute cheek of thinking it might work. It’s a bold and unique strategy and we probably have to be different to get ahead of the game. I didn’t expect a 17 game run without a win though.
I really do admire your attitude. The only cheek involved though, as far as I’m concerned, is them taking my money in the Spring, and then delivering a clearly substandard product by the start of the season. I know you will say that we had been warned, because flogging our best players and replacing them with young hopefuls is their stated policy, but I’m not sure I’m willing to be made a mug of again. I do accept, however, that you see it differently and that’s fine as well.
I’ve much more important things in my life that concern and worry me. I don’t have the time nor the inclination to start digesting every little move of the football club I choose to follow. I was taken from a very early age, to Oakwell as most are in the first instance. It’s a lifelong passion and can be an escape from some of life’s challenges. I met some of my favourite people in supporting Barnsley FC. I’ve a strong connection with the town even though I left some years ago. I fully appreciate the many opposing views and I wouldn’t reply to people if I didn’t find them worthwhile. I like discussion. I’m just not a reactionary sort. And when the team isn’t doing well, it bothers me, but not in the way that it clearly affects quite a lot of others. I don’t get that kind of stuff, the vitriol and abuse, the apocalyptic scenario. But others do. They quickly forget the good but will string out anything negative. I can’t work that out but each to theirs I suppose!
