Re: Little end product? Spot on. Make the opposition worry about us rather than worry about how to stop them.
Wait a minute You were correct - we've got a footballer in our team. A TEAM. 11 Paddy McCourts would see us relegated, as would 11 honest toilers. Paddy puts the work in btw. In the opposition's half.
Hmmm, carrying an injury - but yes, not got the work rate of some others, but personally I'm happy to forego that to get his ability into the starting XI, cos imho we've no-one else at his level.
Re: Wait a minute aggressive ? You didn't offer anyone out or owt. Behave. Anyway them thick fckers needed telling straight....
agreed , as long as his current level of input carrys on he should be a first pick , would like to see him play behind the front two at some point
Re: Little end product? The thing about this forum is that most people value toil over ability. That's why Perkins is so popular.
Perhaps I believe the best teams have a mixture of styles. In my opinion, I don't want to see Paddy McCourt back tracking. I want to see him up in the opponent's half, causing problems, trouble & concern for them and creating goals & chances for himself and his team mates.
Re: Perhaps i actually agree. i think it's great that we have mccourt on the pitch, and he can create moments of magic which get you up on your feet. but he's undoubtedly a luxury player. which means we need to get the ball to him as much as possible, to get the most from him before he runs out of steam and starts losing possession left right and centre. which then means the work rate of the others will have to be maybe 5% higher, to cover him. that will take its toll in other areas, e.g. having mellis on the wing. it's hard enough carrying one player. carrying two is just too much, IMO. i'd still play 3-5-2, and give paddy a free role to cause chaos for an hour. still firmly believe 4-4-2 is the root of our problems
Re: Perhaps McCourt is definitely worth his place in the side and if the opposition have to crowd him out and put two men on him that should create space elsewhere for others. Last night wasn't his best performance but you always get the feeling he could create something and that creative spark is something we've lacked in the past. O'Brien's diagonal runs were excellent too; it was nice to see us being so positive in the second half and we put Ipswich on the back foot. Just need to do it for 90 minutes now...
Re: Little end product? Unless my memory has gone, i thought (last week) Paddy closed the Weds player down and won the challenge that allowed Pedersen to score? His biggest issue is his fitness and doesn't appear to be able to last a full 90 mins......but so what, he's normally contributed to the team whilst he is on the pitch.
Re: Little end product? McCourt's probably a bad example because he does make things happen, but in some cases, there's no point having the ability if your work rate is below par. Danny Haynes was a prime example, so is Jacob Mellis most of the time, and then there was Danny Nardiello.
Re: Little end product? He creates space for others just by standing on the touchline having a ***. The guys a magnet for defenders.
