Not quite right that is it. When played right it gave him confidence to play. And with that came tracking back to win the ball. Wednesday at home for the goal for example. He's a player who I'd want to keep free in an area to cause trouble. Let the cloggers and triers who the majority on here want 11 of in the starting 11, let one of those win the ball and give it to Paddy.
Just out of interest where do you lot think he should play? For me he should be coming on down the right hand side but Wilson seems to use him as a no. 10 where I feel he's completely ineffective as he doesn't support the striker well enough & like Mellis doesn't have the strikers instinct to make the runs O'Grady wants him to. I want to see him running at tired legs down the wing but he seems to come on as a no. 10 & come deep way too often. Not a dig at Wilson as I'm fully behind him & in my opinion he has improved us but obviously he doesn't get everything right. I'd also say Mellis & Cwyka haven't been used properly but then again all 3 lack consistency so it's hard for me to criticise Wilson for not building the team around any of them.
At the moment maybe on the right if a 4-3-3 with COG and Jennings. Or maybe the front of a midfield diamond. Agree, I see no point him playing where he has been used lately. But also think it could be worth trying Pedersen up front on his own as it could force us into playing some football for once.
Sorry mate , I think that is a myth started by the people that want Paddy to play. I have never seen anyone say they want 11 cloggers , never !
The best I've seen him play is out wide with the freedom to move inside. However, playing him there requires you to have a really good full back who is very disciplined. Sometimes, Wiseman looked like he could be that player. At other times he was miles off. Too inconsistent. I thought when we brought Hunt in he could do the job, but I don't think he's been anything like the player that Huddersfield fans saw of him. McLaughlin looks a great prospect, but is probably too inexperienced for the role. In short, we've had no one, which may be one of the reasons Wilson hasn't tried Paddy there. However, much to everyone's surprise, Etuhu looks like he could be a good right back, so now may be the time to try Paddy in that position. Just as an aside, I don't think there's anything wrong with disagreeing with the manager's team selections and tactics. We've all got our own opinion on how football should be played and I've never known a manager who does things exactly as I'd like to see them. What I don't understand, is those who, because they disagree with the manager, conclude he must be **** and genuinely believe we'd do a hell of a lot better if only he'd do things how they want them done.
May I remind folk that he was the best player on the pitch at Burnley, a side destined for promotion. Burnley fans wanted their club to sign him and said he completely ran the game. We were unlucky to lose 1-0. He was also excellent at Brighton - our only away win until March. It tells you how decent he is when folk expect him to do something special in the odd 10 minutes he gets here and there. Well you must do because when he comes on for a few minutes and doesn't score he gets slagged off. His goal v Boro is one of the highlights of a woeful season. Maybe if we'd given him a fair run in the side we'd have seen even more of his undoubted talent. Mellis and Woods don't offer anything defensively, and have contributed less than Paddy in all their appearances combined, yet were still both picked v Burnley recently. No-one can be sure what would have happened if he'd played 30 odd games this season, but it's hard to imagine that we'd be doing worse.
The fact is if he did everything that people wanted(tackling back, running the game etc) he would not be at Barnsley.
Most clubs Paddy played against there fans were drooling over him and saying they should sign him. It's ok though, we have Dawson don't we.
