Cryne has helped us get promoted and stay in the Championship for 8 seasons, not sure what else he could have done except put even more money in, but I find it very distasteful for fans to demand that, he's put plenty in as it is.

Is it this part that is putting people off, Fair enough he has invested some cash but we haven't moved on, not much has improved, we don't hold a lot more saleable assets, the ground etc hasn't improved, why would someone else come in and spend brass to get us to the prem just to pay him all his money back, someone may well put 10 million in, to do what help Cryne get back his losses....they are just that Crynes losses

What if a couple bought a house for 80k. Over 15 years of ownership the couple spent say 25k in total on a couple of kitchen refurbs and about 15k on on the bathroom, as well as lets say 15k on fitted bedroom furniture, which means their total outlay is about 145k, the last work was done on the house 5-6 years ago so because of the condition of it now and also the surrounding area, it is only worth 120k. They then say to a prospective buyer yes you can have it for 120k but when you have spent money and spruced up the kitchen and bathroom and replaced the broken bedroom furniture, you can then remortgage it for more and give us the other 25k we are short.....

they're never going to sell the house if a condition is that when some else has spent the time and money doing it up, to increase the value to previous owners have a share in the profits.

I thought that is all PC wants though, no up front purchase cost as such. Is that not right?

We don't know that Patrick would insist in that clause before he sells the club.
Your analogy is poor also. Maybe if the house buyers paid the extra on condition of them winning the lottery would make more sense.

might be a poor analogy but you knew what I meant, nobody is going to buy anything on the condition that when you have spent money improving it and reap the rewards (even if you win the lottery, after all its still the new owners money, the old owners have no right to it) you then have to pay the previous failed owner their money back that they wasted on poor decisions. weather it be a poorly fitted kitchen or crappy loans/countless manager pay offs etc. The previous regime has wasted this money, why should someone else pay it back.

Again, we don't know the terms or the cost to the buyer so it's difficult to say how good a deal it is or isn't.
If the buyers get the football club for nothing on the understanding of a 6million pound payment on the event of getting a 90million pound minimum premiership payday then it may be seen as a good deal for some.

Be fair to the man. He brought us some very good years and some class players at times when we needed them. I am convinced that he must have sweetened the way for the likes of Anderson de Silva, Hugo Colace, Hammill, the Hungarians etc. Low profile he may have been, but that was his choice and would we really want a Cardiff-style owner. He has tried to sell the club a number of times, if we are to believe what we are told, but won't sell to an inappropriate person, or consortium, which sounds as though he still has the best interests of the club at heart. He probably did need to tighten his own belt over the past couple of season, but he is entitled to do so, as he has a life beyond the football club. Of the other owners of Championship clubs around at the moment, I can't think of many I would rather have had than Pat.

I would rather follow a club which manages its budget prudently than one which gets itself bank-rolled millions into debt and then does a Portsmouth when the owner sells up to a dodgy dealer.

I don't know whether things have changed in football to such an extent that it is nearly impossible now to move things on.
In saying that Burnley have just shown a way forward with two players that I would like to see playing at the WELL - one is a right back called Trippier and the other is a centre back called Shackell - these must be the best in the league in those positions and two of the best players in the Championship.
Leicester have also got promoted and their best player was a centre midfielder called Drinkwater.
If would be great if we could attract players like that to the WELL.

On a different note - obviously we don't know what happens behind the scenes - but stood on the outside looking in, it seems that John Dennis was able to build something at the WELL with very little purchasing power - while Pat Cryne seems to have more money to spend but we have been stuck in a rut for 8 seasons now - bottom 6 year in year out.
Like I said - we will be forever grateful to PC and I don't want this post to be a dig at him - what I am doing here is pointing out that for some reason we do not seem to be moving forward.
In fact this season.......................................we are moving backwards

Football has moved on since John Dennis times. The money involved then is a different order of magnitude to what Patrick Cryne has put in

I have to agree with Nudger on the matter of Patrick Cryne... No-one can say he hasn't stablised the club financially and put lots of his own money in, but he has proved over the years that he knows very little about football and his judgment when it comes to appointing managers has been shocking. The club could have progressed more had the correct appointments been made, but we have struggled year after year due to lack of foresight and poor management. Davey, Hill, and Flitcroft were all poor decisions and let's be right it has to be Cryne who had the final say on these, not Don Rowing. Robins was doing the business gradually but wasn't backed when investment was needed. Competing at Championship level will always be difficult with the current financial lack of fairness in football - parachute payments being the biggest issue - but the club could have done better...

Just one point. PC has written off loans to both the club and to Oakwell community assets totaling in the region of £7m if I remember correctly.

The loans are written off and therefore are no longer shown as owing to PC. Therefore cannot be repaid

Should he wish to negotiate a deal in respect of the sale of his shares or loans he has made to the club subsequent to the write offs that would be a different matter.

Do you think that could potentially be a barrier to a sale of the club ?

What up front purchase price is PC asking for the club?

Dunno, seen reports (ie possibly made up ) that he wanted £1mill, plus £6mill when/if we got to The Prem.

Issue for me would be - £1mill for a business that barely turns a profit, no tangible assets other than players contracts and transfer value.

Then £6mill to cough up later when I'd put the necessary in to improve things. Still no assets.

As I say, that's all based on the initial premise as stated above. I have absolutely zero idea what the real situation is,

Not much point in talking about it and criticising then. I've heard he doesn't want anything up front, is open to negotiation on the ground/academy etc, and wants £4m if we get to PL. Not a bad deal for a football club considering how much Cellino paid for Leeds (who didn't own their ground/training facilities). All based on no facts too.

I'm flying blind on this bit but if say the deal was say £1m for his shares now plus repayment of current loans then that would be the immediate cost that the purchaser would have to consider. If there was additional consideration to be paid to PC if the club was to achieve PL status it would again be down to the purchaser to weigh up the cost/benefit it could therefore be a barrier.

If PC wanted say £10m then the purchaser would have to consider the revenue that would be generated less additional costs (wages etc) by being in the PL for at least a season.

Again I have to say that this is all pure speculation as I have nothing concrete to base the figures on.
