Thanks Pat! Last saw you when we left school as 18 year olds. Never thought I would owe so much to you nearly 50 years later!
What a poignant message - one that certainly resonates with me. 'Pursuing the ultimately pointless' - how many of us have self-destructively done that - when all you really need is your family and friends around you. Ignore the 'occasional cruelty of the internet world' Patrick. I can assure you that the only people worth listening to are those that appreciate and respect your hard work, loyalty and personal integrity, of which there are thousands.
When you think about what could have happened to the club if he had not taken a risk with his own money and then run things in such a sensible far sighted way, we are truly lucky that he was there when we needed him. Supporters of lots of other clubs will wish they had someone like him, and whoever follows him as owner will take over a business immeasurably better than it was before him. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you have done Mr Cryne, and whatever you and your family face in the next few months you know that every true Barnsley fan is thinking of you and wishing you the very best of luck in your fight.
For all the great memories i have supporting this club, times with my Dad and friends made i say thank you to Patrick that those times and memories can continue to be made for everyone.
Very sad indeed. Whenever I have heard Patrick speak he's been very witty, profound and engaging. His love for Barnsley FC shines through in every word he says. He's done his best as he sees fit for the good of our Club and the success of the past couple of years since he became more 'hands on' has been evident to see. I'm sorry that he has been so affected by the keyboard warriors. These cowards sit behind computer screens spouting their condemnation and vitriol with no idea how hurtful and damaging those comments are. The attacks on his Son, the attacks on himself from people who have absolutely no idea how a football club is run and think that success can only be gained by throwing huge sums of money at the search for success. No wonder he felt dispirited and down and felt like giving up. I'm so glad that his love for the Club kept him here for us all. I haven't agreed with all the decisions but I support this wonderful club with my whole heart and will continue to do so whilst ever I can. It's terrible news but I wish Patrick comfort from his pain and may he find solace with his family and those who love him. Thank you Mr Cryne for everything.
Heartfelt thanks mr cryne from my family to your family. I truly hope you can fight this awful illness and win you deserve nothing less. I am sure the rest of barnsley is with me when I say thank you for everything you have done and everything you will continue to do for this wonderful club of ours . Yours sincerely m j sanderson
If that is 'farewell' from Father Pat, then farewell 'good and faithful servant' of the club, the town and the fans. We could not have had a better owner for selfless devotion to the cause. May the days which remain for you be more than you currently reckon and may they be days blessed with peace and love with your family around you. Keep the faith. Above all, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you for everything you have done for our club Patrick, you have given me, my boy and my friends, some of the best times of our footballing lives supporting Barnsley, and for that I am extremely grateful. You will never walk alone
Thank you Mr Cryne for all you have done and what you are continuing to do for our beloved Barnsley FC. May God be with you and give you and your family the strength you need to endure the pain and suffering that this evil disease brings.
That really was "lump in my throat time" reading that. I just echo all that's been said on here about Patrick, a true Barnsley legend to whom we owe so much. I only hope he can somehow defy the odds.
Thanks Patrick for all you've done for our beloved club. A true legend, keep fighting and best wishes to your loved ones.
Thanks for everything Patrick. There would be no Barnsley FC without your intervention, something those who criticise seem to have forgotten. It makes my blood boil that you've had to read such utter, ungrateful tripe from the keyboard warriors, while you've been going through this. Hoping for a miracle.
Thank you Mr cryne for everything you have done for barnsley football club and for giving my two lads a club to support, all the best to you and you're family, sithi.
Along with a friend I've just spent 30 minutes setting up the flag at tonight's match. I've not got a programme so I've not read his article. But looking across to the flag now, while reading the comments on here, I'm filling up. Thank you and best wishes Patrick Cryne.
I thank you, Mr Cryne, for the patience that you have shown and the investment that you have made in OUR football club, not just once, but on several occasions. Of course, you were fortunate to have the funds to be able to save the club, but you having the funds and using those funds are two different matters, and it is particularly significant that you chose that route more than once, even having seen the futility of the first investment. You chose to use your money for the benefit of us all, and because of that I will respect and admire you for as long as I draw breath.
Not someone who crys at all, didn't at the birth of my kids, death of close relatives. Actually shed a tear reading that, such an eloquent man in a tragic situation. A full club legend, we may never see his like again.
