Ugbo was loaned from Chelsea not lower league not every signing will work. Ugbo didn't work mcburnie was great, Harvey barnes was great that lad from Bournemouth who was on loan at brum last season was ****. Swings and roundabouts.

As for older heads I saw some people in other threads and on social media suggest we try sign Gary Hooper and/or Cahill. Sorry but players like that wouldn't give a toss about playing for us if they did come it would be for the wrong reasons keep going with the young and hungry for me just take it up a notch.

Roberts carried him. His limitations were exposed after Roberts' departure and have continued to be at Hull.

I never get that it would be impossible for one center back to carry the other for so long. And to be fair we got Roberts from non league and he himself had his limitations.

Did you have a sabbatical last season?

There’s mention of Ryan Kent within this thread and you mention other loan players.
The strategy Paul Conway is talking about does NOT have loan players in it.
There will be NO loan players.
Unless of course there is an agreement to eventually sign them.
This is exactly what I posted the initial post.

What Conway seems to be suggesting is that next season in the Championship we go with what we have got - plus there will be other young players with potential added to the squad.
What I’m saying basically - is this strategy good enough to keep us in the Championship?

We had some brilliant loan signings last season and we were still relegated.
Although there is the Stendel factor to add to that next season.

The difference being Roberts had a season at League One level first.

I didn't say I had one. It isn't in my job description. I was questioning some of the championship ready players we have supposedly signed in the past according to some.

To be fair to Angus, a Championship club signed him and he went on to play every game for them in which they survived a relegation battle and we didn't. He was well liked at Hull and without the injuries he's been suffering I'm sure he would have played a lot more games than he has.

As an aside, hasn't Marc Roberts played less than 10 games for Birmingham this season without an horrific injury record?

Signing players of a certain age and loanees only if we are looking to buy them worked well in League One. Championship is a whole new kettle of fish though and is risky considering the pot of players to choose from is made smaller by the restrictions we force upon ourselves. Time will tell if it will work at this level.

It isn't an easy 'kop out' at all. Do you even know what you're replying to. You've come in half way through the thread and don't seem to.
Angus had been dropped before picking up that injury. I seem to recall Hull fans describing his defending as comedic. I've no idea why Roberts hasn't been playing this season, but he was a regular last season when Birmingham survived and we didn't.

So MacDonald and Roberts both played regularly in the season previous, and have both been major bit part players this season. MacDonald with massive injuries and Roberts without, but you're only willing to class one of them as Championship quality or a Championship regular?

No idea what Roberts helping Birmingham survive had to do with anything as I'm not doubting him at all. Just challenging your comparison and rebuttal.

You ignored the rest of my response. I love threads like this when people say 'we need experience' or 'this strategy is no good' then when you say well who should we sign what should be out strategy 'Not my job couldn't make it up. If you have a opinion say it.

Their similar appearance records this season are pure coincidence. It doesn't follow that they are equals on the football pitch. I've seen otherwise, as I'm sure many others have.

This strategy was in place the last time we were promoted to this level.

That team, who finished sixth, minus arguably the best centre half who straight away went to Swansea, was on the cusp of the playoffs. The only significant addition to that side (i.e someone who played every week) was a full back signed from league two, a winger on loan who got mixed reviews and a backup striker to Winnall signed from league one.

The players weren’t on long enough contracts and too many were sold in the January. Not really the case this time - we might sell the best centre half again (plus the keeper wouldn’t sign a new deal, so needs replacing), but the rest of the team could be kept together and not all sold come next January.

With some minor additions we’d be competitive, with the additions I think we will be fine. The defence is better than the 16 side, the forwards are in my view too. Mowatt isn’t Hourihane but he’s plenty good enough for the level. Full back wise we played Bree and Yiadom a lot 16/17 - a kid and a signing from league two.

Don’t get the negativity at all. You know what the business plan is. Relegation didn’t help it - they will look to grow. They just won’t do it signing 30+ year old has beens.

That's because I've replied to Loko when I was in the middle of replying to you and didn't realise the half done reply to you was in it as well. The moral of the story is don't argue on the BBS when you are actually working.

I've explained why I contributed to the thread. I didn't agree with some of the past signings who Loko described as being championship ready. You pounced on the one he mentioned that I didn't disagree with him about...Yiadom.

Let’s wait and see what happens with this current squad of players cause let’s be fair. One or two are bound to be plucked away if we are to stick to this selling strategy

YN does make a good point, the same one I’ve been pondering. Will the club sign players that have the ability to compete in the championship and by that we’re not talking about being ready 1 year down the line?

The goal is to stay up the next season and compete well. I’m not saying that this team can’t but with the likes of Pinnock being touted as a “Saleable asset” that’s the heart of the team destabilised

This team is more than capable of holding its own in the championship. With a few more additions we look a good outfit. I only hope that the calibre of player we bring in is not in the same mould as Jordan Green. I like the look of the lad but he’s more for the future and we can’t afford players who need time to show their true potential

The club must surely have these thoughts in mind before they go ahead with recruitment ready for the new season as we can’t afford to do an Ipswich. Because their recruitment in the summer is not a blueprint to follow by any means

I don't like people to be ill-informed, so here's why Marc Roberts hasn't been playing.

So he was fit until Christmas and throughout April but only made 8 starts all season. Slightly better availability than MacDonald then, hence having five more starts.

I have no team to pick in this fight, but the fact they both are in single figures for starts yet only one is deemed Championship class (when both sets of fans have turned on them in the past) is enough for me. Agree to disagree.
