I get a feeling, that the idea is to become an established mid-table team in the Championship again, increased revenue from this will be used to build a bigger academy to attract and produce more profitable talent, and then when that happens, they can start to see some money back from it or sell it.

To me, a lot revolves around making the academy truly special. Looking at Sheff Utd, Leeds Utd & Hudds, it’s achievable with the land we have as well as the current facilities. Yorkshire’s top academy is the aim in my eyes. That’s where the pot of gold lies, not in the PL.

Championship status is vital to achieve the revenue to do this and also the ability to attract the type of player - i.e German and French youth as he alluded to. L1 is not attractive enough to outsiders.

Proof will be in the pudding so the saying goes...only time will tell... But yeah he does seem to press all the right buttons.. With those comments . jury still out for me why they chose little old bsly.... unless its to give them a base and sway in future developments in the town but I'm not going to knock them, it's too early in their custodianship to judge although relegation was and is a poor start

    Something like this.....

    https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/business/lifelong-pals-launch-new-business-15112824

It's on the Shorehead ring road in the middle of Huddersfield. It's on the side of our main Kingsgate shopping centre, across from the university and across from the busiest of our two Sainsburys. Tens of thousands must see it every week because on top of all that the road is always busy with cars and buses driving another two minutes to the town centre. It looks excellent in full colour with the graphics used to advertise companies.

Pop one down by the new market, advertise matches on it, advertise new stuff in the club shop, play some match footage etc. Thousands seeing it weekly will be great for our club.

Oh yes, but if the club, owned/ sponsored a screen they could have more of a say in content and times displayed. As I said earlier about the excellent Club YouTube recaps, imagine sat enjoying a drink/ bite to eat and watching that on a big screen in Tarn.

Was thinking more in a pedestrianised shopping ‘square’ rather than a main road

Exactly, that's why I brought Whitey into it (though I know it's not just him involved in making these vids).

Then the only thing I can think of is to build the club up and sell for profit eventually

I presume to grow and grow the club until it's overall value is much greater than it is now.
You can invest for income or growth.

It's also quite good that they are further down the line with Nice than they are with us, so already have an inkling of which ventures are likely to be successful and which aren't.

Well of course, as the business grows so does the value of it.

Barnsley are a fantastic opportunity for any investor. Decent fanbase. Decent ground. Good location. Great academy. For £20 million we were a steal. There would be very few Championship clubs available for so little.

He said the focus was to buy the ground /land correct ?
the initial deal was 98 %+ the land
did he say why they didn't buy it then and why not in the 6 months exclusive period after that.
technically i guess anybody could buy it now.
couldn't they come up with the money or they don't plan to use there personal money to buy it with.
So did he say where the moneys going to come from to buy it.

If everything goes to plan, we’ll have a massive new academy that’s one of the best in Yorkshire.

Attract talent from home and away.

Bigger and more frequent player sales means more profit - which eventually the board can profit from.

The current situation is they need to invest to get to the level where they can make personal gain from it.

    Perfect logic to me.

They bought a distressed asset run down and in need of repair.
i presume there End game is to do it up year by year using tax incentives.
Buy the land ground maximise there asset.
same as buying a house in need of repair.
get it into the best selling position possible i.e as far up the leagues using the least money possible and then try to sell it.
The industry standard is a maximum 5 years doing this.
if you cant place a business in its highest selling value position by then your never going to and it should be sold to maximise the profits or let go take a hit and move your money into something else.

Do you think it will be easy to find a buyer for a football club of our stature that brings about a good profit

There isn’t any for the first few years. Never is in business takeovers where it’s break-even most YEs.

They are getting the business into a position where eventually they will.

5 years time, they’ll hope to be in a position where they can draw a profit or sell I guess.

The Academy mentions were the largest indication of that.
