I reckon someone has decided he's got to get a run of games to determine I'd he has what it takes. Make or break for the lad imho. Pearson's signing might just give him the freedom to play his natural game.
I thought he was average today, grew into the game in the 2nd half. Made a few silly errors. Benefited from playing alongside Pearson I felt.
I don't understand some folk, really baffling how they talk about young lads. They wouldn't say those things to their own kids. Erm, right?
How am I doing Dad? Yer **** son. Oh. I've been injured and not played many games though Dad. No son, it's make or break time. You only play one good game every 15-20. What, even though I've only started 6 games in the league and made 9 more as sub? Am I that bad? Yes son. Garbage. I booed you today. You can't pass, run, shoot and tha's soft as **** for a big lad. Thanks Dad.
If it were my lad you were taking about I'd kick you on to the centre spot. Knobs. Support them, encourage them. It's not ****ing rocket science.
...............shouting things out like that to a (19?) year old kid.........is one of the reasons many Barnsley fans wont go to the WELL Its an absolute disgrace !!! When Digby first burst on to the scene at 16 years old I said on here that he is the best young player I'd seen since Hirst. Since then Stones has come and gone. But Digby has a lot of talent - unfortunately he has suffered from growth spurts and injuries which has put him back a few years. But give this lad a chance FFS !!! AND.........give all the young lads a chance - if you hear a ming mong shouting abuse at our young lads then fooking shout at them that's giving the abuse. These foookers are undermining the club
I often wonder if folk on here have ever played footy before. Digby seems to get one start / sub appearance every 3 months over the past 3 years & people slate him because he doesn't look instantly comfortable. This is what happens, it takes games to build confidence up & get familiar with the players around you. Obviously you get the exceptions to the rule like Pearson who's Man Utd pedigree. He was the best of our 'front 6' last week against Boro as well. He just needs games to build that sharpness up, him & Pearson look to have the makings of a good partnership
I often wonder if people realise that these young players don't just rock one day and get picked on the off chance, they've been playing football years not just in the first team but at youth level too, so before you condemn people for voicing there opinion stop to think that they might not just be giving a negative opinion on someone on the couple of first team appearances that you've seen them play but on a much wider picture. I've seen him in every first team game he's played in and quite a few youth team games too, and I've judged him on what I've seen and what I've seen for the most part as been mostly dross with the very very rear glimpse of quality, and I'm not going to lie or pretend he's better then he his just because he's young or come through the ranks at BFC I'm going to say it as I see it and give my honest opinion, based on my interpretation of what he's doing wether people agree with me or not is a different matter altogether but I'm entitled to my opinion and to voice wether people on here like in or not, as I've already said in this thread he looked a lot better yesterday the best I've ever seen him play, he finally managed to pass it forward regularly, and he did something I never thought I'd ever see him do and read the game, he looked to be getting around the pitch a lot more freely too, but one swallow doesn't make a summer he played well yesterday and I'll give him credit for that but he needs to perform like that all the time and improve too
I agree with this but for me he doesn't look mobile enough, twice letting the ball run across him only for it to actually run away from him, still a bit slow on the ball and doesn't offer too much creativity to create chances. However I recognise he needs match fitness, game time and to mature. Let's hope he improves, and we see him contribute in 11v11 games.
Same reaction with all our young prospects... Remember butterfield getting pelters in his final season. But like me many considered him to be best player in reds shirt that season... RNL getting pelters recently... Good job Stones left when he did before they turned
No ones said anyone should lie about performances. I have a problem with the people who'll watch Digby & others once in there first competitive game for 3 months & they'll say 'he's ****', '****', 'get rid' etc, a kid who's barely had any first team football under his belt shouldn't be held to the same standards as experienced pro's like Lita, Treacy, M'Voto etc. Saying Digby was poor today & needs to work on things is fine. Saying he's '****' is way over the top. I don't think you've done that though so you probably aren't who my comment was aimed at anyway. I know what you're saying about youth team football but it's a lot different to playing with men in front of a stadium. The speed of the game & the physical strength you need to get through a game is a lot different. Look at young Pearson, first pro game & he was struggling with cramp after 70 minutes
I've never quite understood the grief that Digby has had. He burst into the first squad, got a contract then got injured. I don't think he's had much of a chance since then. But for me, even a 50% Digby offers more than Bailey
Well said. He shouldn't be above criticism, but he's started 6 games! He's 19 and been injured. Most of those games came in a poor squad that was relegated. He's been asked to play a tough position in the middle of the field against opposition who are older and way more experienced. If he makes it, it won't be because of the boo boys, it will be inspite of them.
Completely agree. I just want to see them given more of a chance, I don't have a problem when anyone says someone 'was **** today' it's when you get 'he's ****', 'not good enough', 'get rid' and all that ******** when they've only made a handful of starts. Danny Rose got the same on here & he'd only made about 4 starts
We've got some of the best youngsters in the country at the moment and Digby is one of them and he's only 19. They need encouragement because they have awesome potential. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
