I'll drop your book off in Redfearn's tomorrow (thank you again, by the way), if that's okay with you, mate? It'll probably be between two and quarter past.
Could you possibly leave it till the next match, as I'm not entirely sure what I'll be doing pre-match just yet (i.e. The missus hasn't yet told me!).
Re: I stand corrected got to be in the top 3 or 4 center halves, can only pick macca & evans equal to him and they laiked in a very good attacking team which makes defending easier, & chester zoo later on. futch came at the start of the decline but was class act
Re: I stand corrected Don't know if we have a defensive coach , but somebody like futcher would be a good choice . Apart from ramage you never hear of any of them talking on pitch to organise defence etc
Those were the days when our defence was the strongest part of our team - along with Baker, Gray and May, that was the best defence I can remember.
didn't rate futcher misen ....and saw him miss decisive pen in a penalty shootout at Blackpool....the git hth
What a quality player he was - don't forget his (twin?) brother Ron who also played for us too if I remember rightly although with probably less impact
Remember a game at Charlton where Ron scored a hat-trick to put us 3-0 up, got sent off and we lost 5-3.
Well, I wore my Futch t-shirt today and I reckon it worked, cos we defended much better (despite the walkabout for the first goal).
Certainly my favourite defender. Cool, calm, class. Only a lack of pace and the occasional calamity, usually trying to overplay in a tight spot, that prevented him playing at the highest level. As for Ron, didn't he kick the ref's door in after that first half hat-trick and sending off?
I can't for the life of me imagine how he spent the majority of his career at second tier level. I can name plenty of far worse centre halves who have a reasonable amount of England caps to their name. Matthew Upson for one. Joleon Lescott. Micah Richards. Futcher in his prime was definitely equal to Cahill and Jagielka.
