Yeah what's the bringing young players through ever done? It's not like it has got us to the jpt final got us promoted 2 seasons back aswell as that us and peterbourgh both have similar models for young players and both in the top 6 of the league. Many clubs have now adopted this approach instead of signing has beens like Jamie Mackie on their way down the football pyrmid doing great at Oxford.
Excellent entertainment may come a more of a cost increase than the extra revenue would be. So it's a weighing off of acceptable entertainment at a certain cost. And the way football works is that investments aren't guaranteed to actually achieve that. See all the clubs that spend big and are now in trouble.
How was he stitched up? He didn’t own the club. The owner can do whatever he wants. The coach is an employee
True. But no one from the club contradicts the article. And I don’t think Hecky is a liar. And previous comments by Hecky while at Barnsley indicate that what he is saying is the truth. Two issues: 1) 01/17 firesale 2) Excluded from player recruitment
Issue 1 - I can understand the 01/17 firesale. Patrick was probably poorly at that time - and importantly no one knew how good these players would perform in the Championship. A cautious approach had to be adopted. Issue 2 - being excluded from player recruitment is far more difficult to understand. We can only assume that the new owners didn’t want a local lad like Hecky in charge. As they said - they wanted to provide Barnsley with a broader international appeal. French CEO German manager
Hecky + proper funding = success. Barnsley suited Hecky. Hecky suited Barnsley. IMO Barnsley missed out on a great manager there. Let’s hope the new owners and the CEO treat Stendel more favourably.
Barnsley have missed out on a great manager ? Looks like the other 91 clubs are also missing out on him as well .
If our ex coach said he believed in something at the time of an interview, and latterly, in say this interview piece a year or more later, confirms he didn't actually believe in what he was telling people.... is that not a lie? And if that is a lie, does not the person admitting such actions also be default, confirm to be a liar? If so, how could anyone genuinely know when said individual is telling the truth or telling another lie for a means to an end? Just throwing it out there (and just for clarification, I'm not inferring he is, just offering a question as to whether his comments were his own admission that he hadn't been truthful in earlier interviews).
He can make his mouth say owt. And folk are so keen to swallow any old crap if it suits their own particular view of history. If I recall correctly he wasn't aware of Leeds' interest until Monday afternoon but by tea time had his and 3 other staffs contracts all sorted and done. Get ******* bent. And he was looking forward to having recruitment taken off his hands too. That in no way excuses he or his family getting abuse - that's just pathetic, and btw, the way the old regime handled our 1st season back in The Championship was a shambles imho, price of everything, value of nowt springs to mind. So a bit of a **** show all round previously. Glad those days are behind us, and we seem to be more organised on and off the pitch, and happier with ourselves as a club. A work in progress, but progress nonetheless. Rather than reacting to events as they occur.
Good read that but for me Heckingbottom heart wasn’t in the job after Sunderland job came up. My honest opinion on this is that he thought he was bigger than the club & for me he might be a good coach but he is no Man manager. Simply he been found out ..
Said pretty much same myself thatvperhaps he was a good coach, but poor man manager. Lots in football like that, Peter Taylor, most assistants at Man U with Fergie etc
The figure was said to be in the region of 10 million. I doubt they bought the club a bank account full of money to be honest. Ps, I'd say 1 defeat in 9 with a game in hand is fine and dandy, wouldn't you?
Im not saying everything Heckingbottom is saying is wrong but he seems to take no responsibility for his part in the 'divorce'. Talks as if he was driven out when he signed a new contract a few days before. Its true he was also overwhelmed when he had to handle all the recruitment himself when the CEO left, yet states he had no say in signings. He knew exactly how the club and owner operated when he took the role. I think he has shown his true colours and to be honest i think the did well to hang onto his job and get a new contract when he went. When do we read his version of events in his short Leeds tenure?
Unless i've misread your qoute. I Agree on Hourianne. We had the pleasure of seeing him at his best. But as in the case of most players at the time. Was spurred on ( I used to hate the way he used to fall over to try and gain a foul) to reach his potential when hammill joined and proved to be the catalyst to turn us from a side that was in the doldrums to go on to achieve promotion and the Jpt. Give the lad a free role and I still believe he's the best midfielder in the championship. Doesnt seem to be as much involved in the villa side.
Yes. That was the turning point for me. Hamill signed, and the woeful Myatanga omitted. Brownhill and Scowen making the space for Hourihane to drop back a few yards and conduct. Even the timing of his tackling improved!
