Good coach , good luck to him . Got too defensive with his tactics with us , due to our lack of strikers etc
Won 5 drew 5 lost 6 until we played Cardiff City and lost late on after resting players for the Leeds game. Sumat happened in the aftermath of that result.
Yes - I also expect Barnsley fans to stay with Barnsley. And that’s why I specifically describe this as - football supporters from Barnsley. Which is very different from saying Barnsley football supporters. Let’s explain it like this - a football supporter from Barnsley says to his kid ...... ‘we can go to Oakwell where Barnsley are playing Luton - or we can go to Bramall Lane where Sheffield United are playing Chelsea’. They go to Bramall Lane ....... bump !!! Another kid from Barnsley is a Blades fan for the rest of their lives. And probably their kids and grand kids will also be Blades fans. If you don’t believe what I’m saying here then you clearly haven’t spoken to enough Sheffield and Leeds fans from the Barnsley District.
Eh? If that was the case, it would be because Sheff United have done really well over the last few years under Wilder. Not because Paul Heckingbottom is a youth coach there. One small step from Hecky joining Sheff United as a youth coach to generations of families in Barnsley supporting them. If he somehow makes manager for them then Christ, we’ll have no fans by 2099.
Everything you say is right, it has gone for years . In the sixties & early seventies , bus after bus used to leave Barnsley bus station & head to Leeds & Old Trafford , that is human nature , some fans are just glory hunters but what you are saying is that this is going to happen because Hecky is going to coach the Blades under 23"s , like he is some kind of Messiah who is going to shape Sheff U , that is the most barmy theory I have heard for a long time , Hecky going to Sheff u will not impact us one iota
There are a few that were only bothered he left because he went to Leeds that would happily have drove him to Sunderland or Norwich themselves.
When I say ‘direct’ business competitors - it’s those competitors for supporters that are on our doorstep ie Sheffield and Leeds. I don’t class Man U Man C Liverpool Arsenal Chelsea Etc etc ........ as direct competitors as their influence is nationwide. As for Hecky - he will make Sheffield United stronger and more attractive - and Sheffield United know this. His impact might not be seen next season - but he will develop young players (as his record shows) that will eventually show up in the Ist Team - as I’ve said, making Sheffield United stronger and more attractive to watch. What’s difficult to understand here !?!?!
Everything is difficult to understand when you carp on about a coach who has just got peddled from a job in a league that is equivilant to Meadowhall Sunday league & previous to that got peddled in the Championship & suddenly he is the new Pep . I have no doubt that he will do a good job for Mr Wilder, but he is no miracle worker & the fact that he has had to return to coaching instead of managing should tell you something . I personally like the the bloke & he did a good job at Oakwell but United"s transfer activity will determine who he has to work with , they will have a premier league squad from the off & many of those will be regulars in the under 23 "s so it will be very difficult for him not to do well . Wilder has done a brilliant job & himself & Alan Knill will continue to coach & progress the club as far as finances dictate .
Which him all the luck in the world. Another one who left us under a cloud - not the last time under these owners.
