The more I read/think about it the more I'm in favour... would be a decent appointment if we stay up or go down..

Looks a strong call to me. Plenty of development experience and some Championship level experience though like most also failed at that level. The only negative I can see is that he couldn’t bring a ‘team’ with him.

No job as a manager in league football since 2011. Forgive me for thinking we might do better

His overall record is good. I doubt that Arsene Wenger could have done anything at Stockport during their spectacular fall from grace.

Of all the realistic names mentioned so far, Simpson looks by far the most interesting. Realistically, we're going to get either

1 - someone untried at this level
2 - someone tried at this level but with at least some failure on his CV
    3 - someone foreign

Whoever it is , someone is going to find some reasons to complain about the appointment.

I have to ask why if he’s so good why no one else has bothered in 6 years.

Sounds like a punt to me.

Its like signing players really.. you can never tell. But of most of the names branded about, this one gets a yes from me. If its a no from you and others, then fair enough.

Apart from the England set up you mean? Where he's had more success and got his side playing better football than any other England coach, at any level, for as long as most of us can remember.

The fact is that anyone is going to be a bit of a punt in this situation. Surely better Simpson than somebody who has consistently failed at this level, or a foreigner with no real knowledge of what the Championship is all about?

In reality I don’t care. I expect result and if they aren’t forthcoming I expect a change

Ipswich yesterday had their smallest home league crowd since 1998, so I think their fans would be as happy as you'd be.

Would be a decent shout good at working with young players and getting the best out of them decent at setting them up on the pitch. I think Grayson would of been good untill the end of season, I'd love MM but it' not going to happen is it, people keep suggesting monk what has he achieved? Did okay at Swansea at leeds he had the top goal scorer in the division and a decent squad didn't make the play offs at boro he spent more than anyone in the division and failed. Simpson fits the plan I suppose we will see in the coming days.
