    No I'm questioning the potency and value of strikers (i.e. forward players / centre forwards / number 9s) who aren't able to take a penalty? That's why I said 'for me a forward player should be able to take a penalty.' Of course midfielders can take them too. And defenders. And, as evidenced by this thread, even goalkeepers!

    I seem to remember the logic behind not wanting forwards taking penalties was the risk of a dip in confidence should they miss.

    The whole point of a penalty is in the word! Surely a forward, a "goal getter" would relish a penalty?

    I agree with you, but I’m almost certain that was the reason. Mind you, back in the day they tell me players used to train all week without a ball because that would make them hungrier for it on Saturday.
