Yea if they want bodies away they sometimes do deals, Ive known some companies pay people out to leave and change the pension rules for certain individuals just to get them off the books so to speak.
So although they are quoting you one way (which will be in your yearly statement or pension booklet) they could make it better for you.
Its good that you still have the old final salary scheme too, not too many about now.

As I said, mate, it used to be 50 and was to be altered to 55 for the earliest access to a pension after I left. Just prior to leaving I did hear from the odd individual claiming they'd been found work for a few months until they reached pensionable age, without it adversely affecting their redundancy agreement. Whether this was true, or not, I've no idea. However, if that facility were to be available, perhaps that may be an avenue worth exploring.

I was in this situation 5 years ago. I took early retirement but I was only 54y and 2months of age. I had to wait 10 months before being allowed to access my pension. Remember you get 6 months unemployment benefit so that helps. I'd imagine your pension would still gather interest while you wait on the magical 55 coming round. Well mine did along with my super ann.

TBH if you can afford it, go for it mate. Life's too short to miss out.

Other than getting married, it was the best decision I've ever made.

Getting divorced was the best decision I ever made. Now my pension is ALL MINE.

That was exclusive to people at Rotherham. People who I knew working down there said they had a pool of people who were kept busy till they got to 55. I asked to leave on my 55th birthday but they set me a date of 54yrs 10 months. I was pottering about with bits of jobs before I left which I could have continued doing till my birthday. In the end I was glad to see the back of the place. My mate who was asked to stay on another few months so his vast knowledge could be passed on told them where to stick the job an he was leaving on the date first agreed. He stated the reason was how bad they had treat me. I still have a printed copy of the email. :)

It was sad driving up past east bank for the last time but waking up next morning, nobody could have wiped the big grin I had on my face.

There were a number of offices transferring up from Rotherham A.G.O. to Stocksbridge earlier in the year I left and it was some of those folk I was referring to. I have no idea whether the offices are still based at Stocksbridge, nor do I know if the departments were still costed under the Rotherham umbrella. Therefore I wasn't aware it was exclusive to Rotherham.
In the end, I was glad to leave, as the shocking treatment of numerous quality & highly professional individuals I was proud to call friends was totally at odds with the company I'd worked at for donkey's years.

Exclusive to Rotherham was my take on it, based on a colleague who was staying was transferred down there and put into this pool until a position was sorted for him. It was him who informed me of who this pool consisted of. Your right about the shocking treatment. In fact you were on that list with a lot of my colleagues. If I had a quid for every locker door that had your name and number on the back of it I would be loaded. :)

And all the lockers would've carried the warning, "For God sake, don't phone Kev on a Monday morning if Barnsley have lost at the weekend!":D:D
And thank you for your kind words.

Once took a bloke I used to work with at Stocksgridge called clemit and his mate from wages in my car to Huddersfield to watch Barnsley ( must be a least 30 years ago now) , I had a Talbot Sunbeam at the time but it had a problem with the heater setting it was stook on hot all the time after 10 minutes he asked me to turn the heater off as it was getting a little bit warm for him "sorry no can do Dave" drove all the way to Huddersfeild in the middle of winter with the windows down all the way , still makes me chuckle when I think about it even now.

I used to know Clem well, started the year before me as a trainee.. Ingot and billet production control.. Him and big Tibby

By the way, can you lot shut up about redundo in your 50's. I jumped the steelworks ship after 25 years in 2004 for a better job, so seeing you talk about packing in when ive pottentially got another 14 years to do, is making me wanna puke.
