Really? Each to their own but that's not what I see. His touch at times is plain poor. Perkins can genuinely go round players, very rarely have I seen that from Dawson. I also think there's more to Kelv than just his fantastic athleticism. He showed some good skills and passing at times. You have to remember that CM is a relatively new position for him at this level. He's only going to improve.
But what I mean is if you start Digby and Etuhu you've not got anyone in there with any experience of playing in central midfield. You need the 'know-how' that Perkins has along with his other talents.
Yeah I agree. Perkins still has a vital role to play for the foreseeable. Digby and Etuhu could be the future if we can keep them both at the club and free of injury; maybe easier said than done though.
I think Perkins is a better option than Dawson at CM but both together int gonna work. They were well off the pace Saturday whereas Etuhu wouldn't have given Watson and Maloney as much time. He should've gone 352 for me, that's when we were at our best last season.
He didn't look much good on Saturday, but there were a number of games last season where he bossed the midfield. Let's not judge him after a poor game and see what he brings to the season as a whole because we're not bringing in anyone to replace him any time soon. Personally, I think he benefits from having Etuhu at the side of him.
Very good player, but put him in the middle with Dawson and Mellis on the wing we become very wooden and uncreative.
You're misunderstanding my point. And with Etuhu & Perkins in the middle we usually played 352. That's what it tells you.
I think he does too. Kelvin allows him to just sit and takes 50% of the leg work off him. The only problem then is that we are then relying on Perkins on his own for when we have the ball.
We've got to get Mellis more involved, get the ball to him more often, whether he plays wide or behind the front two. He got the ball twice in the first half on Saturday and caused Wigan all sorts of problems on both occasions. Perkins and Etuhu or Dawson need to be looking for him every time they get the ball. If the opposition double up on Mellis it means we'll have much more space elsewhere.
Agree entirely. Which is why 3-5-2 is so, so important. 2 from Kelvin, Perkins & Dawson in the middle gives his license to do that all game, centrally.
