my great grandad used to play for Rotherham but he married a Shaw from Barnsley and became a Barnsley fan, which meant my granddad did, so did my dad and now me.
My dad started taking me to games when I was very young, so young that I can't even remember my first game, I played youth football at tarn, I went to every game home and away to watch us get promoted to the old third div when I was nine and have been attendinggames since.
As I got older and started working I got the job to built the floodlightsat Oakwell which I was quite proud of.In the Prem I used to flyfrom Brussels to get to matches as I was working abroad and wouldn't have missed it for the world, even though it cost me a small fortune that season.
I was born in Rotherham and have never lived in Barnsley, although Oakwell is the closest ground to me. I can see the "Barnsley border sign" from my window at home.
I could never support any other team, I'd rather not watch football at all than do that.so I'd say yes , you can be as pastionate for the club as anyone, even someone who lives in Barnsley.
(Y) UREDZZZ

Bloody hell none of u lot are from here! personally I find it a bit odd the people who aren't local who come and support us.
RE: Bloody hell none of u lot are from here! I'd much rather travel 3 hours to watch Barnsley than travel 15 mins to go see Kettering, or a bit further and see Peterborough or Northampton
RE: Bloody hell none of u lot are from here! Haha.
Not exactly. Wasn't much glory when I started going! I've been lucky with what I've experienced though in the last 14 years or so of following the reds
I was just never intrigued by any of the local teams, despite the fact Rushden & Diamonds were doing really well progressing through non league, just didn't grab me at all.
Don't get me wrong, I have a soft spot for them and one or 2 other local teams, but I was hooked instantly with Barnsley, and that will never go. Anyone who knows me will know how much it means to me.

I was born in sheffield - so does that mean I have to support a crap sheffield team and not the reds?
Never lived in Barnsley, but my fathers side of the family is from Tarn, going back generations. Never had any choice over who to support. Was a BFC fan before I can remember. Started taking me in 1979. Have never even considered supporting somebody else and never would. Can't even imagine not going to watch us every week.
RE: Bloody hell none of u lot are from here! I don't doubt it. I just can't imagine me traveling down toPort Vale or some team every week or so. Good on you. But yes you are the species I was refering to.
