What simple statistics don’t tell you is if there are any anomalies in the data. Last year we hammered Port Vale on the first game of the season which is a rare event anyway and clearly an outlier when compare to the rest of the season. Remove that and the goals for stats are very similar.

Personally, I think we’ve generally got a lower quality squad than last season (Robert’s being the main exception to that) and we look about as good.

I think if you put Roberts in last seasons team we’d probably have gone up and Collins would probably still be manager. Fine margins and all that eh….

Swings an rarndabouts for me this season more darns than ups, we've got the players, an a decent enough Manager, an a great team behind him to turn things rarnd. Next seven games are massive, we need at least 10 points any less will be disastrous, any more will be awesome, keep the faith, C,O,Y,R

That’s the beauty of stats they don’t tell the story, Cole was also scoring for fun at this point last season.
Personally I think Goalkeeper aside we are stronger squad wise.
With Pines & Roberts the defence is stronger, midfield is slightly weaker without Kane but not a lot in it and I think our current front 2* are better than last season.
    •players not goal scorers.
A decent goalscorer and we become a completely different proposition.

I know people are saying we're improving, but I haven't seen much evidence of it lately. There seemed to be a big leap in effort and intent after the previous international break before the last one that's for sure, but crucially we still seem all at sea at the back. Unless we start to become more difficult to breakdown then its 6th place at best and maybe lower IMHO.
