RE: Just pointing out it wasn't a DECISIVE no vote but marginal with a low turnout nt

since when has that mattered? only need a 10% lead in general election and you get a landslide majority!

I agree with the French and Germans on this. If the Irish don't want to be in the EU then let them leave. Just let the 26 other countries ratify the treaty and ask the Irish to have a referendum on whether they want to continue with it or not.

You are correct in saying that the bast majority of folk can't possibly a clue what is in the treaty - that certainly goes for the Irish. So why did they have a referendum??

I'm not saying it doesn't mean the poll returned a no vote...

...just pointing out it was a very close call and less than half eligable voters chose to vote. probably because they believed it to be a complex document about which they would expect rightfully elected members to make a decision on their behalf as in how a democarcy works

Fact is the EU in its present unrepresentative of its citizens state should be abolished.

Replaced by a free trade zone. End of. </p>

well the French voted No to the Constitution and opinion polls suggest they would say No to the Treaty? So you mean the French politicians on the gravy train?
