Precisely. No one in a postion to vote one way or the other so why have it? It's why we elect folk into parliament in the first place.

Don't know where you are going with the gravy train stuff. The politicians who instigated the referendum in Ireland are not the ones who go to the Europaen Pariament anyway. If you are just saying that all politicians are corrupt then I'd disagree with you. We'd really be in trouble without them you know.

erm I'm not saying that all politicians are corrupt. But they make a lot of money from Europe. Including domestic politicians, trips to Europe, business consultancy on EU matters, family memebers who are MEPs etc.

I am in a position to know these things. I am not a politician basher.

RE: I know that is delibrate irony but..

the politicans that said yes to the treaty in ireland, said people have to vote yes because it is good for you, good for irleand, is not good enough to vote yes.

The leader in the EU movement here in Norway said, that "ireland have said no to something that 26 other EU countries have said yes to".

The 26 other countries did not have any referendum, mostly because the politicans fear a no, as in netherland france some years ago. And now Ireland.

Now EU opens up for a new referendum so that people in Ireland can vote correct this time. Reminds me of the elections in Zimbabwe.

the other 26 EU-countries did not have the balls to let the people vote yes or no. Mostly because in many countries there would be a NO.
