Hardly a massive demand from football supported for coffee flavoured beer and the like. Give me a bottle of Carlsberg anyday

Use a different turnstile so you don't have to walk through the smokers

It takes 2 members of staff 5 minutes to pour a pint in Preedys ... one to pour, one to tip the barrell up. I kid you not! And just don't even think about asking for a cup of tea.

As someone who likes a pre match drink (if I'm not driving), I'm in two minds. On the one hand I think there's something wrong if folkss can't go a couple of hours without a beer, and personally, I'd prefer to concentrate on the game, but if people want to do that, I think that it would help generate both income & atmosphere.

Never mind coffee flavoured beer - all I want is to be able to get a pint of decent bitter.

Why aren't bottles of pop/cups of tea/flasks etc thrown then?

A lot of fowk are already half baked by the time they get to the ground and that's never happened before so don't see why it'd happen then.

Because alcohol can make people do the most stupidest of things. Odds on that if your the type to bring a flask of coffee to a match, your not likely to have had 5-6 pints in the pub beforehand.

Re: I'd give it 3 weeks

People with the bottles of pop, cups of tea and flasks aren't the ones who are half cut. People drinking beer don't tend to have those things. But they would get another beer. I personally think those under the influence are more likely to throw something than those who aren't and a beer in their hand would be ideal.

Not that I'm particularly fond of banning folk from doing owt, but it's something to consider.

I just think there'd be a lot more fights. We're crammed in pretty tight in The Ponty. With pints of beer sloshing about I think there'd be a lot of spillage, a lot of people taking exception to having their coat covered in beer and a lot of feighting. It's not like we've got tables and stuff like in a pub. The stands of a football ground are just not a very good environment for drinking beer. They weren't designed with that in mind.

Simple solution, put a big screen up with the match on in the areas behind the stand, rather than the 1980's TV's and serve decent cold beers that people can drink away from the pitch.

Went to watch England rugby league at KC and sat there with a bottle of Carling, quite nice to be able to do so. Didn't see any problems caused by people drinking whatsoever.

Each half is 45 mins, is it that difficult to go without alcohol? More trouble than it is worth.

How can I? It's the main turnstyles for the stairs at the Ponty end. Smoking isn't allowed in football stadiums therefore they shouldn't be there.
But this is a thread about drinking, not smoking

I didn't know Acorn did a coffee flavoured beer. I was advocating that the club support a local business, get bottles of Acorn Barnsley Bitter and Barnsley Gold on offer.

Walk an extra 20 yard and use the turnstile behind the East Stand

Re: I'd give it 3 weeks

I think you make a good point here Jay. The people buying beer in the ground will most likely have been in the pub before the game as well, they aren't going to stop going in the pub prior to the game because they can get a beer in the ground.
They can have one at half time, perhaps one way to do it is that the bars are closed whilst the game is on, but you can take your beer up to the stand, so you can buy 1 at half time and then take it back to your seat.

No, now again this is not a thread about smoking, stop trying to change the subject.

The guy behind me int Ponty, who has spent the majority of each game telling everybody how ***** Jimmy McNulty is, would probably shut up with a bottle - round his head.
