Said it the other day.. they are here because they see an opertunity to make a quid.
Whether it be directly or in directly from the club (though association)

There only problem is conning fans that buying non-league players is in the best interest of everyone and not just them..

Read an article this week about why owners buy clubs and it basically said there was 2 main reasons.
If they buy a club at the right time and can run it for a period of time with a reasonable loss the value of the club has always increased generally due to the increased demand and exposure of football worldwide(think like buying a house).
The other reason was the exposure it gave themselves and their other business interests.

There are of course always exceptions.

The bit I don't get is that if they are squeezing playing budgets (false economy given the cost of not getting promoted imho) is why do we need three unproven RWBs and the entire contents of Woking's subs bench? Two players of L1 quality would surely cost less in fees (if anything) and wages than half a dozen punts.

I don’t think the recruitment team will view them as “punts” though. They’ll be well scouted and analysed and the recruitment team have convinced the club they are worth signing either for now or for the future.

For me though we needed to kick on this summer after going so close last time. Yes, it was inevitable Mads was leaving and the loan players were going back. Admittedly we didn’t see Duff jumping ship but maybe he knew what was about to happen in terms of recruitment?
We needed two L1 ready centre halves and a couple of strikers, either via loan or permanent. There would’ve been a few affordable options around I’m sure given the cash we’ve raised.
The new recruits might turn out good business but it’s highly likely they’ll take a long time to adapt and develop. That puts us at a disadvantage from the start.

I'd be surprised if they didn't but that doesn't improve their credibility as L1 players and my point was about us seemingly having the money for 3RWBs and players who aren't even in a non-league first team (for the future) while other positions have gone unaddressed in the here and now particularly in terms of proven quality, especially when we have our own excellent U18s 'for the future'.
